He does have a real mandate from Canadians......his is the ONLY national party, and aside from the Separatists, who wish simply to destroy us, he holds a clear majority.
Only national party? I think you will find that there are three national parties in Canada. If he held a clear majority, he wouldn't be facing defeat.

It is extremely obvious whom Canadians want to lead them........(Separatists are Quebecois, not Canadians.....just ask them) It is obvious whom Canadians want to lead them.....and that is Harper and the CPC.

Last I heard, Quebec was still part of Canada.

Well said juan.

She can also refuse to accept the prime ministers resignation and order all the mps to find a way to make the present government work- and coalition or no they're bound by her decision.

That would be pushing the edge of her powers.......

and I simply would not expect that from the current GG, who is somewhat left in her views........

that is NOT meant as a criticism of her in any way.

Just my guess.

With all due respect Colpy,

We are living in dangerous times and we need an honest government to be working for us. She will push the envelope because it is her duty .

In my opinion we are not innocent in all of this -- we are the electorate and created this mess.

Guess we might, some time down the road, make it right.

Just an observation.

Agreed

But the coalition has publicly stated it has no intention of allowing an election.
It would be instantly out of power if it allowed an election.
Instead they have stated they will govern as a an non-Democratic (elected) government for 1.5 years.
After that if they are still in power I suppose they will re-asses.

Yes, she should tell the three stooges to grow up and get back to the house and make it work. Nothing can be decided in less than 2 weeks.

What I don't get is the position of the die-hard neocon right-wingers in this whole mess.

All along I heard the mantra of "the people don't want another election. Now that there is an option on the table to avert this "unwanted election", that is totally unacceptable

From this it SEEMS like what the right-wingers want is for the cons to have a false-majority for 4 whole years.

The cons blame the opposition for making parliament "dysfunctional" by not going along with whatever they want. There is an option on the table to make the current group of elected representatives quite functional- but THAT would be "un democratic"

Seems to me the true neocons are a somewhat confused bunch, since the only option in their eyes is for the OPPOSITION to sit back and let Harper do whatever the hell he likes (including making votes which should NOT technically even BE confidence motions INTO such in order to force the opposition into a choice of either going along with the Cons OR risk spurring the much publicized "unwanted" election), which obviously isn't what the MAJORITY of Canadians want. For Harper to now be accusing ANYONE of "politicking" and "dirty tricks" is simply laughable. He doesn't want this country to work, he wants this country to be how he and his "friends" want it to be and most of us are NOT his friend.

Can the neocons ever admit that their dream is all but buried??

Do you really think any one of them is concerned about making ANYTHING work? All they can see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and getting to run the show for awhile and possibly picking up a little "support" by spreading OUR money around by helping out bankrupt businesses whos C.E.O.s are wintering in the Bahamas on helfy "performance" bonuses....it would be a joke if we could afford it.

PO knew

PO knew it but would not admit he knew like everything else he is involved with along with his buds that form PO & Co.

Just Like Chretien new about the US not finding anything wrong in Iraq and calling off the support. Then, everyone said Steven Harper was a war monger like Bush.
But the truth be known he did not have the reports from the Foreign Ministers Offices RCMP , CSIS and what ever other spies :lurk:the Lib's had there and in the US

You know thats not true. All this bs is because the libs can't get funds on their own... She will see through the smokescreen and give Harper her blessing.
The Libs get funding on their OWN?
Risus, the Liberals are the ones who implemented the $1.95 per vote, Harper wants to take it from the opposition and keep it for him self, you call that democracy, go on and cheer for a goof who would rather start war then make things work.....
Harper and Jim are done well done......bordering burned....:lol::lol:
