I'm going to disagree with you Colpy on the principle that Zimmerman created the confrontation. We know he saw Trayvon Martin and called 911. We know he was advised to return to his home and let the police deal with Martin, yet he disregared that advice. In essence by following the kid, he triggered the series of event that led to the shooting. He wasn't just a random passerby, that Martin went off on for no reason: if someone was following me, I'd be on edge and possibly pissed off about it too. If I see evidence of a gun... well flight is the first option but fight is #2.
I've said before I am not an expert on Florida law but from my understanding of Canadian law, Zimmerman's course of action takes him at least into Manslaughter territory...
First of all, it is not illegal to approach someone on the street.
Secondly, the extremely mild statement of the dispatcher was in no way legally binding on Zimmerman.
Third, Zimmerman was recognized by the community as having security responsibilities in the gated community,
Fourth, in the 9-11 call, Zimmerman says (before he confronted Martin) "He ran"...........he then continues talking with the dispatcher in a clear voice, unhindered by heavy breathing. If he was chasing a 6' plus tall, 160 lb, 17 year old football player, he is the most fit 5'9" tall, 240 lb guy with asthma I ever heard of!!!!
