Hither and yon
So far she is right in line with Parliamentary history and tradition.
She is getting extremely sound advice from constitutional experts of course.

I just hope Harper doesn't fire her and replace her with a puppet.

And yes, he can ask the Queen to remove her, all Harper has to do is tell the Queen the Government of the day has lost confidence in the GG..

Sounds like the poor losers will be crying in their beer.

Of course the GG did the right thing, seeing through the bumbling attempt of the three stooges to grab power

The decision the G.G. made, was the kindest thing she could have done for Harper. It was also the best thing for Canada. Everybody gets a couple months to think about it and cool down. If, at the end of that time, the coalition are still not happy, they can give the government a vote of non confidence and the G.G. will ask them to form a government. I think Harper is toast anyway and he should be able to see that.

yep, she has a tough row to hoe. I saw Harper on T.V. this morning- IMHO he sounded pretty reasonable to me- but of course you have to hear both/four sides of the story to get the full picture.

Risus. can we expect at some time in the future, you will actually read and think before you post? The three stooges, as you call them, will probably form the next government of Canada. What the governor general did, was to put off the inevitable until the end of January.

What you predict could very well happen, Juan, BUT IT'S NOT INEVITABLE.

Like everything else, what I wrote was an opinion. We'll have to wait and see. Whether or not the coalition forms a government, will be up to them.

That's a second-best-case scenario Juan, imo. And a pretty sad one at that. Those three don't deserve to hold the reins anymore than Harper does.

Absolute best case scenario would be for the party leaders to give their heads a firm shake and make a conscious decision to act in the best interests of Canada.... Just quietly go away and work on a plan to work together.. a plan that can earn the respect and support of Canadians... one that demonstrates that our government is functioning as it is meant to. Like that's gonna happen. Not bloody likely, unless someone smacks the whole lot of them soundly and repeatedly upside the head with a "smarten the hell up" stick. :angry3:

The worst case possibility (and I fear, the most likely) is that the buffoonery we've been subjected to continues, with Harper using every [legal???] means at his disposal to undermine the opposition... caring little what ripples of destruction he sows in the process... and I use the phrase 'legal means' loosely ... it shouldn't be legal to lie and falsely resurrect highly volatile issues such as separatism amongst Canadians. That's just morally reprehensible, imo... almost as bad as Canadians falling for it. If he can have Canadians this frenzied in less than a week, imagine giving him almost 2 full months to whip us up. Buckle up everyone, the ride's just beginning.

Oh, I'm sure few outside of Quebec have a huge problem with the Bloq becoming the sacrificial scapegoat of the day for Harper, but we should care that our passion about that issue is being used against us - and that a sitting Prime Minister - in the throes of a non-confidence crisis, actually chooses to respond to the problem by attempting to drive a wedge between Canadians. Shame shame shame on him for that!

And now... well now, the coalition has a whole new batch of weapons with the GG's decision. Hot on the heels of the announcement, the squeals of "Democracy is Dead" began to ring out. Watch for it, I'm sure even I can't begin to imagine how many directions this can go - but in the hands of the rabid trio, where ever it goes, it won't be good for Canada.

Come on people, too many of us are not looking at these antics with a much more critical eye and level headed view to determine if there is any actual truth to be found anywhere in anything any of them are saying.

We have to make our voices heard. There are a few rallys coming up in the next few days across the country. Let's get out there and demand the government we deserve. Griping and moaning is not going to get us anywhere. Raise your voices, scream 'til you're hoarse, let those basturds know you're pissedoff!

First...Hi Karen. How are you?

I'm not sure if any of them deserve to hold the reins but I tend to blame Harper for calling the last election early when it was fairly obvious that he wouldn't be rewarded with a majority. Canadians don't seem to like unnecessary elections and what he got was a really miserable turn out.

I can't disagree with any of what you wriote....I'm sickened by the lot of them. Somebody suggested that we hang them all and start again...I would go along with that.
I have been a Liberal for years but I don't see anyone I like in the leadership race.

I wonder if the Rhino Party is still around.

What's with this separation coalition? They create a crisis, attempt to lynch the PM, and they don't expect a fight? Harper is suppose to rollover and let election losers of 8 weeks ago take his job? All this because they want to suck the public of funds for their political charades?

I mean no disrespect to the GG, I think she has done her very best in an impossible situation.

I dislike her decision for two reasons;

1.) It sets precedent that the GG is simply the tool of the PM.....and I think that is incorrect.......I do think that if ever there was reason to refuse the PM's request, it was now.

2.) I may be wrong on this, but I think this simply sets the inevitable storm back awhile......everyone gets to stew in their own juices for weeks. Not helpful.

I wanna go toe-to-toe with the GD Separatists and their lapdogs now.......that is what it comes down to.

If the Conservatives had held their ground, they might have lost the confidence of the House, but they would win the next election........
