That you don't know the answer to that question is part of the 'mystery', a big part now. I thank you, the Team thanks you even more. Snapped up under the new 'close enough laws'.

Sun News : Inquiry not needed, we know who's killing aboriginal women
According to an RCMP report released in May, the vast majority of murdered aboriginal women were not killed by strangers, they were killed by spouses, boyfriends, family members or acquaintances of the victims.

"Female homicide victims generally know the person who kills them -- more than 90% had a previous relationship with them," said the report. "This is true for aboriginal and non-aboriginal female victims."

We know who's killing aboriginal women. Most of them are men -- 89%. Close to 40% of the killers were either the spouses or boyfriends of the victims, 23% of them were family members, and 30% were acquaintances. Only a small minority of the killers were strangers -- 8%.

So the picture that the aboriginal lobby is trying to paint, that aboriginal women and girls are being plucked off the street randomly by strangers and are being killed, is false, according to the facts.

Of course that doesn't say anything about the missing women, but really what is the expectation from a public inquiry?

A public inquiry will have no impact on locating these missing women and basically will reconfirm the results that you posted earlier.

Not only is this a big waste of money, but those resources could have been directed at something more pressing that hasn't been investigated umpteen times

To makeeveryone feel good about the government. Always better than puting money into resourses that might actually produce results.

You tell us what the big mystery is petey.

Already did but you're too f-cking dense to accept reality.

Where are FN women? Ask the FN men.

There ya go mentalflaws. Reality.

Do we still need an inquiry?

Aside from the fact that it would be more accurate to represent these cases based on actual population, the real issue is that this we are focusing specifically on murder rather than violence of all types.

It's been shown that aboriginal women suffer higher rates of victimization than non-aboriginal so there needs to be a fully fledged inquiry as to the root causes so we can work to prevent more crime instead of taking reactionary measures.

Victimization of Aboriginal Women

Research reveals that Aboriginal women experience dramatically higher rates of violent victimization than non-Aboriginal women do (Proulx and Perrault 2000; Hylton 2002; Brzozowski et al. 2006). Violence within the domestic context is the most pervasive form of victimization experienced by Aboriginal women. Nearly one-quarter (24%) of Aboriginal women in Canada reported having been assaulted by a current or former spouse, compared to 7% of non-Aboriginal women (Brzozowski et al. 2006). Results from other studies suggest that this figure may be as high as 90% in some Aboriginal communities (Ontario Native Women’s Association 2007).

The literature shows that Aboriginal women consistently report a rate of partner violence much higher than their non-Aboriginal counterparts, even after controlling for relevant social variables. For instance, while living common law is associated with a 13 percent greater risk of victimization for non-Aboriginal women, the associated risk for Aboriginal women is 217 percent higher (Brownridge 2008).

Sexual assault against women is particularly prevalent in Northern Canada where there is a much higher proportion of Aboriginal people in each of the territories than in the provinces. In 2002, the rate of sexual assault in Nunavut was 96.1 for every 10,000 people compared to the overall rate in Canada of 7.8 in every 10,000 people (Levan 2001). Aboriginal women have also been found to be greatly over-represented as sex trade workers compared to non-Aboriginal women (Oxman-Martinez et al. 2005; Royal Canadian Mounted Police 2006). In one study of the Vancouver sex trade, 52 of 101 women interviewed were Aboriginal (Farley et al. 2005). The overwhelming majority of these women reported both a history of childhood sexual abuse by multiple perpetrators and a history of rape and other assaults while working as prostitutes.

But we already know the "root causes" What would be the point of spending a gazillion dollars on something we already know? It's plain stupidity and it makes like someone is doing something, when in actual fact, nothing is being done.

Since we already know the root causes, lets address them. Get rid of Indian Affairs and the reservation system; ensure that the head honchos of each tribe are accountable - lay charges where necessary, give the natives their due by allowing THEM to decide what they want; educate, educate, educate - and emphasize how important that is. Get the Chief in BC (I'm sorry I don't remember his name which, in and of itself is shameful on my part because I so admire him but I've ALWAYS been bad with names) who runs a successful enterprise to literally issue a manual into the how to succeed. Those are just a few of my suggestions (at no cost) and I'm sure the natives themselves can come up with many more.

An inquiry is simply an excuse to continue to do nothing!!

He doesn't give a sh-t. He looks for anything to slam Harper no matter how retarded the source.

For Provinces it's a matter of having RCMP and social program funding restored that in recent years had been made up from Provincial coffers.
