Here is an article illustrating how nice it is- and PROFITABLE TOO- to be a civil service union Hog! With some comments of my own in brackets):

The city of Regina released its annual list of expenses earlier this week, which includes employee salaries.
Two former City of Regina employees' final take home pay last year was more than $100,000 higher than their regular wage for the time they worked, despite neither working the full year.
Erna Hall, the city's former deputy city clerk, left her job in September after CBC began asking questions about the legitimacy of her master's degree. Hall obtained her degree from Almeda University, a notorious diploma mill, for about $1,500 and a year's worth of work.
(Oh my- WONDERFUL PAY- and NO real credentials apparently needed either? The good will of our LIE-beral overlords is enough to make the FAVOURED among us RICH!)
Hall's regular pay was $109,946, but she received an additional $102,257 in "other" pay, bringing her total 2017 wages to $212,203.
"Other" pay can include severance, vacation or sick pay, allowances or membership fees exceeding $1,000.

The city's other deputy city clerk, Amber Ackermann, took home $89,069 last year.
Ernie Polsom was paid more than $141,000 in "other" pay after he left his job in March 2017.

His regular pay for the three months was $38,899 but he received an additional $141,732 in "other" pay.
Polsom was replaced by Layne Jackson, who made $163,549 in 2017.

For one thing- many politicians and other “key” LIE-beral pals get a portion of their pay “tax free”- which so greatly reduces the amount of “pay” they have to report to the Sunshine List that they are often NOT listed agt all!)
(In addition- double dipping -meaning you retire from the Hydro job and start taking your solid gold pension - paid out at a rate of return not allowed by law to ordinary people- and then you get RE-HIRED as an “advisor”- doing your old job at a HIGHER salary while STILL COLLECTING YOUR PENSION! And because you are on a SO CALLED short term contract position- that is RENEWED whenever you want- there is NO need for you to be on the Sunshine List even though you are gobbling up gravy at a fantastic rate- being a full time “temp” worker for Hydro IS GRAND!)
(Sadly- our teachers do not get the same gravy as Hydro pigs- our teachers retire early and collect their grand pension- beyond anything we ordinary peasants are allowed- and then they pick up part time work at NICE rates- filling in for sick teacher colleagues! And of course our Wynne-bag LIE-berals signed a contract with our teachers that lets them take as many PAID sick days as they like- with NO NEED even to produce a note from a doctor! Yes- they CAN disappear for weeks at a time– just phone in once in a while and tell the boss you need more time off- and RETIRED others will be paid handsomely to cover for you on those days when getting out of bed to deal with snotty kids is just a BOTHER!)

U.S. forecaster Peter Zeihan, a former geopolitical analyst with the security firm Stratfor, has spent his career trying to predict the future of tumultuous states — recently, he’s turned his gaze to North America. Now, his latest book, The Accidental Superpower, takes a bleak look at the direction of the world in general. Among his speculations, the future of Alberta in Canada. He spoke to the Post‘s Jen Gerson.
Q Tell me about your book as a whole?
A The global system as we understand it is highly artificial. The United States created it after the Second World War to fight the Cold War. We introduced this concept of free trade that allowed anyone we were friendly with to trade with anyone else we were friendly with — the U.S. guaranteed the security of the oceans, it would open its markets, it would patrol the Middle East and make sure energy could get to where it needed to go. Before, you had competing empires fighting for resources and markets. The American system expanded peace and prosperity throughout the world in a way the human race had never experienced before. But we did it to contain the Soviet Union. Since the Cold War ended, the U.S. has been withdrawing from that system.
Q Why?
A Two big things. The first is shale oil — the U.S. will be energy independent by the end of 2016. Shale is severing the strongest link between us in North America and the rest of the world. The Middle East is becoming someone else’s problem.
The second piece is demographics. The percentage of Americans who are baby boomers is smaller than the equivalent cohort elsewhere. Every other country (except New Zealand) has a much larger population hitting mass retirement, and you’ve got all the financial problems that come with that.
Q Amid this interesting geopolitical shift, you devote a chapter to Alberta’s possible secession.
A Canada’s demographic situation is similar to the rest of the developed world — a large population moving toward retirement and hardly any young people in the replacement generation coming up.
However, Alberta does not fit that mould. It is the youngest province, and is becoming younger, better paid and more highly skilled as the rest of Canada becomes older and less skilled, and a ward of the state financially.
The other piece is, of course, energy. British Columbia has been hostile to Alberta’s efforts to diversity oil exports and the Atlantic is more than 2,000 miles away.
But really, it comes down to demographics. Right now, every man, woman and child in Alberta pay $6,000 more into the national budget than they get back. Alberta is the only province that is a net contributor to that budget — by 2020, the number will exceed $20,000 per person, $40,000 per taxpayer. That will be the greatest wealth transfer in per capita terms in the Western world. The only other place we see things like that is in Saudi Arabia, where the oil-producing regions subsidize the rest of the country.
Q Secession has been a dirty political word in Alberta for several years, with politicians rumoured to be secret secessionists. That talk died down when the Harper Conservatives were elected — when a group of people who came out of the Alberta mould assumed power.
A On Stephen Harper’s watch, Alberta’s tax bill has basically tripled. This is going on while you have a federal government that is pro-Alberta.
From my point of view, it doesn’t matter if it’s this government, the next government, or the one after. The demographic trends are locked in. If you get a government in Ottawa that isn’t Conservative, isn’t born, bred, raised and trained in Alberta, what do you think they’re going to be doing to the tax policies?
Q So this is a conversation about secession to the U.S.?
A Alberta as an independent country doesn’t solve a huge number of problems. If it left Canada, its currency goes through the roof because all it has is oil exports, and that would drive agriculture out of business. It would be a one-horse economy in a very short time.
Seceding to the U.S. becomes the only political and economic option. If you do that, the inflation issue goes away, the tax problem goes away, the security problem goes away. Alberta gets everything it says it wants out of Canada within the first year of joining the U.S.

Q Do you think the Americans would have us?
A Americans have a reputation for being ignorant and short-sighted, but I would be stunned if there was a single person in Congress who would think this a bad idea. If you bring Alberta into the country, the U.S. becomes technically energy independent overnight. I would expect ratification of the expansion to sail through Congress in a matter of hours.
Q In Alberta, the numbers and logic might make sense, but politically and culturally it still seems to be a huge stretch to think Albertans would seriously consider this.
A I’m a forecaster. My job is to look at the trends of how the world works. Comfort makes people a little more passive and Canada is a comfortable place. Because secession is legal, Albertans are going to have to think about this — that doesn’t mean they will seriously consider it. But a $40,000 per taxpayer bill every year, that’s a bit of a motivator.

Hog determination to dismiss the disaster as an exception accidentally engineered by one man is so great they will EDIT the truth and omit critical facts such as just how often Kabel `forgot`-as Hogs put it-to reload chlorine into water purification machinery. Hogs will NOT admit that Kabel neglected to refill or REPAIR MULTIPLE chlorinators on MULTIPLE occasions! Nor will they discuss how often Kabel submitted FAKE water samples to hide how infrequently he was really doing his job! Hogs will not admit that Walkerton council hired Kabel as head of the water department due to his `good old boy` ties as his properly licensed FATHER had the job before him-Walkerton council KNEW son Stan was NOT licensed to operate the system but hey-Stan was a good union Boy-and being unlicensed he could be had cheap- so he got the job! And of course once Stan became an alcoholic-and led the rest of the water dept down that same alcohol laced road, council circled the wagons and began to `D` things! There is NO FACT that Hogs are not comfortable to quickly `omit` from the record!
So much for Hog `D`ing of Walkerton. Today we have a nice little story out of the Toronto history books and as usual I have added some comments of my own in brackets). On January 15, 2004, Toronto Sun writer Sue-Ann Levy wrote a column about `Absurd` union tactics and I have summarized her column below-lets see what sort of `D`s we get from Hogs this time around:
After SEVEN YEARS of legal wrangling-right up to the supreme Court of Canada, CUPE Local 79 lost its bid to reinstate a male union worker convicted of sex assault on a boy in his supervision.
Toronto Sun writer Sue-Ann Levy told us on January 15, 2004: That a city recreation instructor at the McCormack community centre in Toronto committed a series of sexual assaults over a period of years-starting when the boy was nine years old and ending when he was twelve-due to the worker being ARRESTED for pedophilia!
The worker was tried, convicted, and served his prison sentence. Once released the convicted pedophile made it clear he wanted his old job back but instead the City fired him! For reasons that are obvious to an ordinary person but incomprehensible to a Hog, the City was not willing to let him come back to any City facility that might have kids in it; so CUPE 79 launched a grievance against the City-alleging unjust dismissal.
The grievance went to arbitration and in a decision worthy of Kafka the arbitrator ordered the city to re-hire the worker. The arbitrator wrote this about the case ”the criminal conviction was NOT conclusive proof of the employees guilt....that the employee did not commit the acts alleged”.
The arbitrator ordered the worker re-hired in 1998 and George Monteith was city director of employment law at the time and he is quoted by Levy stating: “we have been in court ever since”. Meaning the matter has been argued through the courts from 1998 up to 2004! Monteith went on to say that THIRTEEN JUDGES at various judicial levels ALL over-ruled the arbitrator. Monteith also claimed that the cost to the city for outside counsel for this case-that is-lawyers not already working on retainer for the city-cost approximately $145,000.00! (I point out there would of course be additional costs-in the THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS- for the earlier arbitration efforts.)
Ann Dembinski was CUPE president at the time and “was on holiday” when the final judgement by the Supreme Court was made, but others at CUPE headquarters refused to comment on what they described as a “precedent setting case” as they had not yet reviewed the latest judgement.
City director of employment law George Monteith pointed out that “in fairness, they (meaning the union) have an obligation to provide fair representation to their members”!
(But an ordinary person will ask: at what point does `FAIR` dissolve into insanity? JUST HOW HUGE would be the damages levied against the city if they re-hired a convicted pedophile and he then proceeded to molest ANOTHER child on city property? And just how could city officials look the public in the eyes after allowing such a travesty of justice to occur?)
Levy then obtained this information from Bill Adams, city director of employee and labour relations- that as of January 2004 : ”there are 2,603 union driven grievances under way” and that “some of them involve employees convicted of criminal theft from the city”. But there is some good news-Levy was told by Adams that there were 3120 grievances at the same time period the previous year! (I say a drop from 3120 to 2603 is a nice reduction in the level of union madness!) Adams also explained that it costs $3,000.00 per DAY to fight a grievance at the arbitration stage-with the average `case` running about 12 days-and of course going to court would escalate the costs dramatically!
Adams also admitted that although none of the 2004 grievances were as serious as the pedophile case, he did admit that a number of those 2.603 grievances involved city workers CONVICTED of criminal THEFT of city property.
(I ask: WHY would unions think it would be morally right to FORCE the city to RE-HIRE criminals CONVICTED of theft of city property? Apparently union chiefs like the idea of having a `desperate` work force to manage-in other words the most dedicate and loyal union Hogs are those who cannot survive without the union and who owe the union leaders BIG favours!)
(From all this a cynical tax payer may easily conclude that the convenience of union members trumps any need for public safety/concern for child welfare or respect of tax payers money-but what else can we expect from a pack of Hogs who think they are entitled to the WORLD ON A PLATTER-delivered steaming hot to THEIR gravy train!)
(It will be interesting to see how Hogs `D` this story. Certainly they showed no shame over Walkerton-they insist that it is the fault of Mike Harris in spite of all the pieces of the disaster being put into place LONG before he appeared on the political scene. And of course the province had NO authority over Walkerton water dept or of the local union and Harris certainly had no legal right to fire Stan Kabel as Hogs `d`-mand that he should have.)
(Of course one has to ask if Hogs were so determined that somebody FIRE Stan Kabel then why didn’t they blame LIE-beral Jean Chretien for not stepping in? Why just Harris-and of course we know its because Chretien was a LIE-beral dispensing Hog gravy and Harris had pissed off Hogs by pinching pennies and limiting their gravy!)
(And speaking of Hogs `D`ing things-why don’t we ask just how it was that murderous drunk Stan Kabel KEPT his good union Hog status AFTER the Walkerton disaster and once the furor died down he got ANOTHER nice Hog job in a nearby municipality installing traffic signals! Come on now-which of you Hogs wants to step forward and explain which union executives and which local politicians thought it was a good idea to RE-HIRE Kabel?
Alberta could stay remain more sovereign if it could secure either the Canadian or US market or both, meaning that it would certain want some kind of comprehensive free-trade and maybe even open-border agreement with one of the two countries. That way, when Alberta is in recession, its residents could more easily find work elsewhere and vice versa.
Then there are economies of scale. Alberta could create its own currency, but that itself costs money and puts Alberta at a trade disadvantage. Alberta could adopt the CAD or the USD even without anyone else's consent and honestly there wouldn't be much anyone else could do about it. That would have the advantage of Alberta using the same currency as its neighbours but the disadvantage of Alberta having no say on the central Bank rate of if the other country decided to print more of its currency, etc. As long as the other country manages its currency responsibly, Alberta would be fine doing that. But the moment the other country decides to print more money let's say, Alberta would be hurting.
So if Alberta wanted to use another country's currency, it would probably want to negotiate some kind of seat at the table at the central bank to have a say on how that currency is managed.
With the above in mind, if Alberta did separate from Canada, especially given how landlocked it is, it would make economic sense for Alberta to join the US in some form, even if only similarly to Puerto Rico so as to maintain a high degree of sovereignty but certainly not total sovereignty.
