I'm not sure which is worse. People who blindly accept the official story fed to them by governments, media and military/industrial complex or the people who believe governments, media and military/industrial complex have magic wands and can fix anything even if they deliberately broke it.

If the Bilderberg Group is reluctant to publish the minutes of their meetings then why do the 'tax-payers' end up taking in the costs for security for these meetings? Was JFK a conspiracy theorist when he gave his 'Secret Societies' speech?

"I can’t tell you how many times people ask me about the conspiracy of the Bilderberg Group. It is a conference I’ve occasionally been invited to and have attended once or twice.

If only the people who wrote the alarmist treatises on the Bilderberg Group were allowed in. They would be so utterly disappointed. It’s just a conference like dozens of others around the world. And anyway, the idea that a finance minister or a banker would say something with a group of 150 people that is any different than what he would say in public is crazy in today's world where everything leaks instantly. In my experience, they say the same fairly banal platitudes inside as they say outside.

So on the few occasions in my life when I’ve been inside centers of the conspiracy, I’ve been disappointed and relieved to find they were pretty much like the world on the outside."

Conspiracies are fun. Like, for example, the Russians are planning an invasion of Canada's North.

Even a horrendous idea that their own government (for example) is one hundred percent evil is, from what I can gather, some sort of twisted comfort because it provides an explanation.

I believe they are only 99% evil!

Conspiracy theories are pretty much the modern day religion. In times past, when things happened that were cataclysmic or of major consequence, people blamed it on the gods / God. Nowadays, people blame it on a worldwide conspiracy of rich and powerful men.

There is little to distinguish modern conspiracy theories from old religions, and there is just as much point in trying to argue against them.

I have no evidence of God, I do have evidence of rich and powerful men trying to get richer and more powerful! ;-)

Quite possibly so, I wouldn't know. I don't blindly accept things.

But I have never seen you argue against any of the Govt's propaganda????

Blind acceptance is worse than belief.

So do I, but that has nothing to do with what I said.
You said there was no difference between old conspiracy theories based upon religion and modern theories based upon rich & powerful men trying to take over. I would argue that lack of evidence of one vs actual eveidence of the other is a huge difference.

I think people that embrace conspiracy theories have a need for stability. It's easier to believe that somebody is in control and it makes the alternative of randomness and unpredictability seem less likely. In their minds, things will continue much the same as it already is because somebody wants it that way. It's a comforting thought if you are where you want to be and while most conspiracy supporters would admit it, they are comfortable with the status quo.

Exactly the same as the need to believe in a religion.

Conspiracy Theory is a science as old as philosophy. Youse airheads can make jokes about conspiracy because you don't know what you're talking about. Conspiracy rules the goddamn planet and you can't find any, go home, it's almost dark, your mothers will be worried.

Wrong - The RSM would boot your Officers ass down the freaking hallway, call the Adj and tell him that in no uncertain terms that he WAS to read you the riot act - Think again -

He's talking about his fantasy army Goober, not the real one.

In his fantasy army his a Captain in charge of a Comm Unit that finds time to kick the azzes of Marines, Rangers, Green Berets. In between doing that he goes on two UN Missions, and is assigned to a General collecting evidence of the masscres in the former Yugoslavic Republic.

It surely rules your planet.

Yes it is my planet. You keep forgetting that though.

Exactly the same as the need to believe in a religion.

I suppose that those who do believe in religion and donate to the various temples to stupidity that they frequent on their days of rest do so in the mistaken belief that they belong to churches that do not exist. It's not hard for me to believe in the Pope and his established proven religion so I'm puzzeled why you refuse to acknowledge it's existence. If your befuddled about the reality of religion why should anyone pay any attention to your village innocent ideas about conspiracy?

If you were slightly coherent, you might have a point.

Are you suggesting that I don't believe in the existence of the Pope and his established religion?

I think most people see , the things told us Do Not add up! They cannot be as we are told ! So people start guessing what really took place? Some things we are told are impossible to be! Personally i always believed we have two types in government! One type really wants to destroy us another type does want what is best for the United States! They passed that dumb health care bill here ! without anyone reading it ! And it was about all kinds of junk , that had nothing to do with health care! Who wants people leading there nation , not even reading the bills they sign ? Makes no sense at all! The democrats here have been willing to go along with anything the President says ! He got the United States in so much debt ! but i think some are now waking up to the fact He has taken us down a very bad path! But He is still giving billions away over seas! He said He was going to stop the two wars , and started a new one for no good reason!

Probably because they are intriquing and can fill in the information that is many times incomplete or inaccurate to begin withl. THey lend themselves to our imaginations. (fertile as they can be).

The "truth" or genuine "facts" are such a rare commodity now.... that what used to be "consipiracy THEORIES" can be very close to facts..

They can be fun.& even sensational. a lot more fun than basic boring facts , when things get right down to it.

Or it is just your garden variety human nature.;-)

.......either way....they are always interesting. One just has to make sure to remain grounded in his/her thinking so as not to get carried away with them. and remain in contact with what is reasonable . (and reality)
