Why are many Christians so intolerant of other religions and spiritual paths?

So, Cliffy. Let's say you, me & a cricket were trapped in a burning building. You manage to free yourself and are then only able to rescue just me or the cricket. Which one do you choose. Nevermind....I don't think I want to know your answer.

Nah, Cliffy isn't like that.

There is plenty of evidence that God exists, but none whatsoever that he DOESN'T exist.

And isn't a tad hypocritical of you to bang on about "intolerant Christians" whilst you yourself show such little tolerance towards Christians and Christianity? Who are you to tell me that God doesn't exist? You're just some little anonymous dweeb on a discussion forum.

Typical bloody atheists. Preaching "tolerance" whilst showing less of it than those they preach tolerance to.

That belief, written in a document apprived by the evil former Nazi Pope Bendict XVI in 2007, which stated that other, non-Catholic, Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation, shows just how intolerant the Papist Church is.

The statement brought swift criticism from Protestant leaders. "It makes us question whether we are indeed praying together for Christian unity," said the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, a fellowship of 75 million Protestants in more than 100 countries.

"It makes us question the seriousness with which the Roman Catholic Church takes its dialogues with the reformed family and other families of the church," the group said in a letter charging that the document took ecumenical dialogue back to the era before the Second Vatican Council.

You are a below average run of the mill racist. Poorly educated, ill informed and either on the far side of bright or the close side of stupid, I am undecided on this one so I will toss a coin. Nothing special about your type.

I'ld stick the cricket in my pocket and pull your sorry azz out of the fire. Like I said,"all life is sacred." I have a very personal relationship with my Creator, so I don't need to follow someone else's path. Your participation in these forums has inspired me to write some of my better stuff in a while, so thank you.

Some select Bible verses concerning tolerance:

"Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate." (Psalm 101:5 NIV)

'Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?" (Habakkuk 1:13 NIV)

"It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife." (1 Corinthians 5:1 NIV)

"I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false." (Revelation 2:2 NIV)

"Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols." (Revelation 2:20 NIV)

All of these examples of intolerance from Scripture target various types of immorality rather than other religions or spiritual paths, Cliffy.

What about them. I'm sure you have guessed by now that I do not hold much faith in the writings of men and that the bible is not the word of god. I get my inspiration and words direct from the source. I don't need someone else's opinion to know what is expected of me. But I can see that your opinion on the subject is rather outdated by about 2000 years.

PS
Try a mixture of holy water, garlic, and frankincense. If that doesn't work, resort to exorcism.

A phobia is defined as an irrational fear of something...
So mistrust or event hate is not a phobia...
By your definition you might suffer from Christophobia

Nope, been vaccinated.

Over the course of my participation in these religious questions I've noticed a real problem with meanings not being fixed. Spiritual, God, religious, hell, etc all vary from one person to the next.

And they always will.

I have a more personal relationship with your creator. He she it loves me above all others, I'm sure of that, because I'm special and I have special needs. The most sacred forms of life taste better..

And they always will.

Yep, the natural tower of babble seems bent on diversity and confusion. I think it ensures creativity someway.

No faith in the writing on Man, but no issues with oral tradition as passed down by man?

That's a pretty thin logic there bud

Cliffy, please explain how as you say "get my inspiration and words direct from the source."

Could we instead define "intolerance" as difference of opinion when it comes to expressing differing religious opinions. Of course, each religion has its own teaching and each is free to believe as he or she chooses. Why does everyone go so wild when we find others do not share our opinion. True freedom of speech doesn't demand tolerance, but allows for difference of opinoin without going all bizerck.

I think it is up to each individual to find out what God tolerates and does not tolerate. Maybe someone could opt to write a thread on the things God tolerates and does not tolerate. I think His is the opinion we should all be paying attention to.
