Why are many Christians so intolerant of other religions and spiritual paths?

Sleepy, you live in Canada. Have you slept through the last 144 years of Confederation in your neck of the woods? You have choice. You can send your children to a secular public school where students of all backgrounds learn together, free from any particular religious perspective. You can send your children to state funded Catholic schools in English or French. You can send your children to private religious schools; these schools also receive funds from the province. You can home school them if you are afraid of secular contamination. You will receive provincial funding to do so.

Your little borrowed poem has no relevance to your situation.

You flatter yourself. Calling atheists and bible thumpers two sides of the same coin just means you don't understand what's going on.

It appears to me that it is you that has a problem understanding. I agree completely with you DS.

Well, really, if you have to ask, the explanation's going to be difficult, if not incomprehensible. It frees me from having to believe unsupportable claims and trying to model my life around them and their implications, from having to accept an absolute unbending authority, from having to believe I'm a miserable sinner of no particular merit and doomed for all time unless I believe certain things and behave certain ways... In its simplest terms, it allows me to do my own thinking, and to know that it falls to us, and only to us, to make the world a better place.
I envy your ability to communicate clearly. Well spoken, thanks for the response.

If I were still working, lived in your district, and your house was on fire, I bet you wouldn't say that.:D

That's a pretty good description.

I have no problem with atheists, they simply don't believe and there is much in the Bible I don't believe- I don't fully agree with them but that's OK. As for Bible Thumpers, that's a horse of a different colour, they are arrogant and take it upon themselves to be God's deputy and pass judgment on others. Hypocrites is the perfect description!

Actually, no, we aren't. The variety of atheists is as broad as the variety of religionists, from passive to aggressive. And since Bible thumpers believe in what they do, they are quite different from atheists, who disbelieve in what the thumpers believe in. Disbelief is not belief, nor is it necessarily belief in an opposite.

I think it's pretty commonly understood that not everyone who believes in God, who belongs to a church, who embraces a faith is necessarily a 'Bible thumper'. I mean, that designation is used pretty exclusively for someone who's overly aggressive, uses extreme rhetoric, basically an idealogue. So the opposite side of that coin would be someone who does not believe in God but is equally aggressive and extreme, which to be quite honest does not really describe all atheists. At least I don't think it does, many shades of grey and all that. I've known people of faith and people without faith that I would say are fairly open minded, courteous and respectful of each other. They just don't embrace each others philosophies.

Now I have also come across some atheists too that are aggressive, condescending, in your face, who absolutely won't listen and wear the proverbial blinders too. Maybe the problem is we don't have a term to differentiate between the extreme and non-extreme? Just a thought.

That is the basic tenant of the earliest Christians to whom the mind and reason were God and who taught that personal intellect was the only salvation for man. You are not here to make the world a better place the world is here to make you a better God.

lmao... I am certain you are not that bad looking...but yeah aren't cats wonderful with their unconditional love.
My take on the whole commercial thing was a tad different than yours...my take was; the model showed up to the shoot and they wanted to put radio-active ingredients on her face. Why you may ask? Well use a geiger counter to prove it removes radiation. If it can remove radiation it can remove your makeup and thus it is the cure all. (proof geiger counter that indicates radio active material by beeping). Then they use the wonderful miraculous cream on her fact which..........voila...........removes radiation.... conclusion.......nothing beats our facial cream.

I can't remember what I was on about, it was very important though.

To me, this tells me way more about the person, arguing with them , which ever side of the issue it is , it is just pointless, to reason with. People like this are like zombies, they are just expressing their bitterness, mindlessly crawling about.

Zombies in the Bible:

"And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples that wage war against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths." (Zechariah 14:12 NIV)

I would guess that most atheists don't talk about it?
