Reminds me of a story told to me by a Hindu (Indian) friend. Hindu religion is well known for its tolerance of other religions. Hindu religion says that there are more than one paths to salvation, so presumably the path flowed by Christians, Muslims etc. may also be a valid one.
Anyway, once an argument broke out among men belonging to different religions, as to which God is the true God. Hindu said ‘Why don’t we pray, invoke the God and ask him about it?”
So they all started praying separately. Prayer of the Christian were answered, Allah appeared to him.
“So you are the true God?”
“Of course, otherwise why would I appear to you?”
“So all these years I have been worshipping the false God?”
“Not necessarily.”
Muslims’ prayers were answered, Vishnu appeared to him. Again similar conversation ensued, and Muslim went away convinced that Vishnu is the true God.
Christ appeared to Buddhist, Buddha appeared to the Jew and so on. Each and every man was visited by God of some other religion, and they all became convinced that all religions worship the same God.
Finally, God appeared to the Hindu.
“Why are you praying? What did you want?”
“Why, what just happened was what I wanted, of course.”
..and that is where people tend to be dogmatic. They can't see the difference between spiritualism and religion
I wondered " what if there was NOTHING " when we pass away?
Then I go home and asked God to keep all my family safe..

having to, make my way, in my own way, don't have to answer to anyone but my
own, and cherish this earth, as we are the earth's children, we came from the
earth and we shall return to it, it comforts us, it cares for us, it is ours, we can
see it, feel it, feed off of it, study it, know it, travel on it, die on it, and return
to it, that is reality, not imagination.

You have no reason to apologize. It was a legitimate question in the proper forum. Your question was not stupid either. Anything that can stimulate conversation, whether for good or for ill, can have merit.

Cliffy, as to the months, have you ever wondered where the names September (7th month), October (8th month), November (9th month) and December (10th month) originally came from?
September to December originally were not months 9 to 12, but 7 to 10 (as their name implies). September was originally the seventh month on the Roman calendar which began in March instead of January.
Christians have borrowed a lot of stuff from Romans (including Christmas), why not the calendar?

hehe I think it's really odd that we don't have 13 months, too.Found out that Christians don't like the number 13 nor where the idea of 13 months came from. 13 goes into 365.24 better than 12 does.
But 12 moons of 30 days = 360 days + 5 days at year end.

What I find even more interesting is why there are 7 days and why they are "named" in the order they are. The origin is not Biblical. The Hebrews adopted it from the Egyptians.

Gilbert, I think Indian (Hindu) calendar has 13 months. Each month is 29 or 30 days long. Every three or four years, they come up a month short. So every three or four years they have an extra month.
Spade, we still use the sexigesimal system (60 seconds = 1 minute, 60 minutes = 1 hour).
January is Janus, February is februum, March is Mars, April I just don't know, May from the greek Maia, June is for Juno (Canada's goddess). July for Julius Ceasar, August for Augustus Ceasar and the rest Sir took care of.

And it works well with navigating and such, all figures are divsible by 6. The oddball is that the sun travels 15 degrees per hour, but In 24 hours the sun has travelled 360 degrees. One second of latitude is one nautical mile, or 6000' (close enough). 60 hz is also the best frequency, oddly much of Europe went to 50hz to be more compatible with metric but its hard on electric motors and lights flicker.
It's all the surveilance cameras as well, on the job and out. . Monitored emails and 'phone calls. Photo radar, red-light radar, green-light radar, and so on, and so forth. Free? It's just a word...
