My company just finished a $2.8 million expansion of our R&D facility. Doubled our lab space, and doubled our office space. We just secured up to $2.5 million in funding from the Atlantic Innovation Fund to develop new sea lice therapies, which will include work at a number of academic institutions in Eastern Canada. Yesterday we received an email from HR with 15 new job openings, ranging from supply chain, to quality control, quality assurance, biological process validation, engineers, more scientists in cell culture, formulation and fermentations, and management in HSE and training.
Biotech is booming in PEI. Not an industry that gets a lot of attention outside of the region, but the growth is encouraged by all levels of government. PEI is known for primary industries like fishing and agriculture, but there has been an embrace of the knowledge based economy here as well.
