An Ocean of Garbage – “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch”

There is a popular saying that “there is no ‘away,’” and certainly, when it comes to oceans and plastic, this seems to be the case; 8 million tons of plastic worldwide ends up in the ocean each year.

Every ocean in the world has at least one “garbage patch.” And unless we change our ways soon, scientists warn this amount may quadruple by 2025.

Read post #187.

Again with the 'not quite true' scare-mongering. In 2010 the amount that constitutes a spill was changed from 500L to 5L therefore now when a guy kicks over a pail it is counted. What you should be looking at is how many large spills (over 500L) there are.

I would also ask you consider what exactly happens when LNG is released. Once it is no longer under pressure is expands and evaporates almost instantly diffusing into the atmosphere where it dissipates at a high rate. You could spill 1000cf of LNG and 5 minutes later you wouldn't know it happened other than some residual odor of mercaptan...unless you light a match when it's leaking.

Get me a meeting with this creator dude...I got some questions and complaints.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will keep fighting the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline after a federal court rejected its request to halt construction on the project, which the tribe says would destroy some of its sacred sites, the tribe's chairman told NBC News on Sunday night.

In a two-page ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected the tribe's request for a permanent injunction to block the $3.7 billion, 1,170-mile pipeline, which would transport 470,000 barrels of oil a day across four states. The pipeline would run within a half-mile of the tribe's reservation, which straddles the North and South Dakota border.

The ruling allows Energy Transfer Partners — the Dallas-based company funding the project — to move forward with construction of the pipeline on all privately owned land up to the Missouri River. Construction had been halted by a temporary injunction issued in late August, which prohibited construction 20 miles east and west of the river, the tribe's main water source.

"My grandfather always told me the Earth will shake us off her back like a bunch of fleas when she has had enough.... and we are getting close to crossing that threshold. If we don't shift our consciousness and relationship with the Earth we will not have a chance. The Earth will go on... will the human race is whats in question? Latinos, We Are Indigenous, The #NoDAPL Fight is Ours As Well

The Mexican flag stands apart from most of the other flags draped on the gate; it is one of the few representing a country that is not a sovereign tribal nation. But many allies from the south have made the long journey to North Dakota, including indigenous communities in Mexico.
"The Aztec are here," said a man filming the arrival of yet another tribe to Red Warrior Camp. The campsite has grown into its own ecosystem, a small town of teepees and tents complete with kitchens, schools and a center for legal advice for those who've been arrested or who plan to be.
