UN wants Dakota Access Pipeline construction halted

GENEVA (KFGO) - The United Nations is getting involved in the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy.
A UN Special Envoy for Indigenous Peoples is formally asking the United States to halt construction on the four-state pipeline.
The UN's Victoria Tauli-Corpuz says the pipeline "poses a significant risk to the drinking water of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe." In a written statement, the envoy says the tribe was denied access to information and excluded from consultations.
Tauli-Corpuz says the federal government should "undertake a thorough review of compliance with international standards" and obtain the tribe's "free and informed consent."
The envoy also claims that peaceful pipeline protesters have been “reportedly intimidated, harassed and prosecuted.”

Nope. nope and nope!

I spent most of my life in the Cowichan valley where there is a huge indian population. They are one of the wealthiest bands in Canada. They all get about $1500/mo per person (man, woman and child) from the band but most still collect welfare checks. They are given brand new houses which become broken down garbage dumps in a year or two. The attitude of entitlement is so ingrained and pervasive. They make all these declarations about a proud heritage but have basically zero pride or self-respect choosing instead to milk the system and party their lives away on my dime. They call for self-governance and an independent nation but still want the free money and benefits Canada provides. Doesn't seem to matter how many times we negotiate a 'final' settlement with them they always want to come back to renegotiate for more. A lot of that I blame on government for continually allowing it but really, where is all this pride and strong heritage and why do they have no respect for themselves or anyone else?

I speak in generalities here. I knew some who wanted nothing to do with the band and just worked hard and paid taxes and tried to be part of Canada and they were vilified for it by the others. I have just had enough of pouring money into what appears to be a worthless endeavor to help ungrateful people who refuse to help themselves.

All that said I don't respect anyone who won't work for a living and won't at least try to help themselves regardless of ethnicity.
I think my grandma had a little Choctaw and I have brown hair and eyes where's my fukkin cash?

The reintroduction of ferrets to the prairies also has reintroduced the bubonic plague. Kill the ferrets before they build a pipeline and threaten Injuns.

Military-Style Raid Ends Native Prayer Against Dakota Pipeline

Up to 21 people were arrested during a peaceful prayer service.

North Dakota police with military-style equipment surrounded Native Americans gathered in prayer against the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline on Wednesday, disrupting their plan to cross sacred and treaty-protected land in protest of a project they fear will destroy their livelihood. “ND authorities deploy armed personnel with shotguns and assault rifles, military vehicles, and aerial spray on peaceful Water Protectors gathered in prayer,” wrote the Sacred Stone Camp, in a Facebook post.
Officers with military-style armored vehicles and shotguns threatened the protesters, who call themselves “water protectors” for defending the Missouri River from imminent pollution, reported Unicorn Riot. Up to 21 were arrested, the channel reported.

Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Chairman Releases Statement on Dakota Access Pipeline Arrests

EAGLE BUTTE, SOUTH DAKOTA – On September 29, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Chairman Harold Frazier sent a letter to United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting Federal monitors in North Dakota and asking her to condemn of the aggressive actions against the water protectors at Standing Rock by privately sanctioned personnel and law enforcement.

We are a peaceful people who have fought and died for the right to pray and be present in the protection of our lands. Yesterday, people who were gathered in peaceful prayer near the construction site near St. Anthony to protect Unci Maka – our Grandmother earth – were subject to arrest by the Morton County Sheriff’s office. Officers called to the prayer circle arrived in armored vehicles, armed with guns and terrorized elders, women, and children as they attempted to comply with law enforcement. In 1890, the United States gunned down hundreds of unarmed Lakota people in what is remembered as the Battle of Wounded Knee. I am fearful that if North Dakota law enforcement does not deescalate their tactics that we will be forced to witness a repetition of that massacre. We strongly urge the state of North Dakota to reconsider any efforts to use violence to discourage native protectors of water from actively exercising their First Amendment rights,” said Chairman Frazier.

Are you still going on about this Zippy? Get over it. Better yet get some knowledge of the industry and REAL potential for problems. Then learn yourself about the economic impact of the industry and this project. Then STFU and stand back while us working folks do our thing so we can fund your welfare.

BTW- you should see this massive frac job I'm working on. There are 12 wells on 1 pad all with 4-6 zones to frac. We're gonna be there for a year.

The numbers are staggering. A 2015 analysis by the Center for Effective Government found:
Since 2010, over 3,300 incidents of crude oil and liquefied natural gas leaks or ruptures have occurred on U.S. pipelines. These incidents have killed 80 people, injured 389 more, and cost $2.8 billion in damages. They also released toxic, polluting chemicals in local soil, waterways, and air.”
According to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, these spills and ruptures released over 7 million gallons of crude.

This is a Public Service Announcement: Warning - loving our planet has been criminalized. It is now a criminal act against the government to display any love for your planet in any way or manner. The "eyes" of the government & corporate thugs are on you! Do not love your planet or harsh enforcement may follow (slavering, blood dripping dogs, etc.). Recent events in North Dakota prove loving the planet will not be tolerated by government goons or corporate thugs & their mad dogs in the kingdom of injustice & feudal tenure. Kiss off on love of "Mother Earth." Love is a much hated symbol of resistance, love & caring/concern for our beloved planet! - James Buik

How can a pipeline with a limited size and tight in its place carrying oil be a risk for drinking water?
Will it pour in rivers or lakes, or does it only carry oil?
If there is some leaking to a nearby river or well, it may give contamination, while if the pipe is independent and isolated, how can it be any danger?
