I think it is right for any government to be concerned about potential job losses or economic upheaval. I think it's a bad idea for them to try heading off such problems by interfering with the system of justice. They have to be pretty bankrupt of ideas if they can't come up with some other way of protecting workers.
If the federal gov could come up with all the money to buy a stuck-in-the-mud pipeline, why couldn't they pay wages to those affected by SNC-L's problems until they get back on their feet? Simplistic I know but just a hint at the fact that solutions are only limited by imagination & funding - of which there is plenty when the govt decides it needs it.

I think that this trend to concentrating power in the Prime Minister's Office is most unhealthy. They've just been caught trying to interfere with the country's judiciary at the highest level of but they don't see anything wrong with that as the "9000 jobs", that Butts used to punctuate his presentation yesterday, end justifies the means. There are lots of "social goods" that can be brought about more efficiently by dictators but I sure don't want to live there.

In the end she will never be taking anything to court as the testimony would shed a very bad light on the World Bank and the IMF specifically. Perhaps the former AG was going to try and show that Harper and the Conservatives were willing to 'look the other way' to crimes being committed in Quebec to enlarge their voter list in that Province. The part they were not counting on is the World Bank banning them for 10 years in 2013. That case alone would have ended the need to even investigate what went on in Libya.

So...let me get this straight, he's all pumped and ready today to rush up to Iqaluit to apologize for the mistakes made by previous generations leaders, he's also sorry that their was a lack of communication resulting from JWR experiencing things differently than him, but bears no responsibility for what he did and can't offer even an ounce of contrition.

This fool is done.

This is in response to a post containing nothing particularly offensive to any person or current organisation - ?????.
**** ******** **** ******* ******* ********* ********* ****** ***** ***** ****(Censored in the interest of civil discourse.)

VIBC.........you are coming late to the party and must understand that Curious Cdn is trying to project an image that is false!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Real LIE-berals and LIE-beral Lites- meaning Red Tories who want to destroy the Conservative party and turn it into a pale half hearted imitation of real LIE-berals and their less intelligent cousins of NDP routinely have these temper flare ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Red Tories have serious debating issues because they have NO actual policy that has not been stolen from others and want to look responsible and logical......................when they are NEITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have only to look back to former prime minister Joe Clark- he is the CLASSIC RED TORY - and his assertion that when Reform Party joined with Conservative Party- then all GOOD Conservatives should have joined the LIE-berals - sums up the Red Try position nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or we could look at Ernie Eaves "of destruction"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely you recall him?????????????????????

He was finance minister under Mike Harris won the biggest majority ever held by an Ontari-owe premier for his second term!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the Red Tories freaked out at having a true responsible Conservative premier in charge and replaced him with Ernie Eaves.....................and the Red Tory party then got trashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately the number of Red Tories in the Conservative party is now quite small -otherwise we would not have Doug Ford a premier!

Most of the Red Tories are now left to whine around the edges of the political arena...............dreaming like old Nazis of their former Glory Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It makes them cranky to be left behind by history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jody Wilson-Raybould is a NATIVE ..................................
NOT A JEW you imbecile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The current Lavalin mess has NOTHING TO DO WITH EITHER Jews or World Bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nor does Lavalin have anything to do with Harper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your attempts to bait Harper and Conservatives are even more incoherent and laughable

than your poison pen letters to Jews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another NYT opinion piece

Canadian Politics Aren’t Cute. They’re Corrupt.

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That`s CORRUPT "LIE-BERAL" CANADIANS to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After all.............as posters here on this site have noted...........

it was Conservative Harper who set up the law that snared Lavalin and LIE-berals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even that LOON MHz admits it was Harper who set up the law that SNARED Our idiot Boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just another gift from our least appreciated and probably most astute and most frequently LIED about -by LIE-berals

and most responsible prime minister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In spite of all the LIE-beral Fake news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron, Liberal ethics handbooks aside, I incline towards the suspicion, admittedly cynical, that this is how politics in Canada has always been done; but in this case unusual circumstances are forcing things out into the open, into the ugliness of full high-noon daylight.

Lavalin is NO MORE typically Cdn than Watergate was typically Yankee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both CRIMINAL EVENTS represent the WORST in western politics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has always been some skullduggery in politics...................that is why politicians were created!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But we are reaching the point of EXTREME AND RECORD CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some serious JAIL TIME IS CALLED FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a healthy does of political HUMILIATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NONE of the current LIE-berals are fit to lead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Opinions | Canada needs a public inquiry into Trudeau’s SNC-Lavalin controversy. Now.
So no apology from the little potato. Must say I was surprised by that as I had thought we would see another of his infamous breast-beating mea culpas. But no, arrogance rules the day.

Wilson-Raybould

I have to admit that the PMOs Office has a case with Wilson-Raybould. The Cabinet is an organic, corporate body in the Parliamentary System. It is intended to be an integral corpus that governs by consensus and by solidarity. Any Minister can be lobbied or engaged on matters related to political decisions. A Minister derives his/her privilege by way of consensus and with the CONSENT of the Cabinet and the PM.

Wilson-Raybould seems to think she had autonomy by way of her office and was above the advice and consent of Cabinet colleagues. That is not the way the system works and she should have been well aware of it. There is a case for making an Attorney General independent of the Cabinet by separating it from the Minister of Justice, in which case the the AG would NOT be a Cabinet post, and might not even be an MP. But as long as it is, the Ministers responsibility takes precedence.

Wilson-Raybould seemed to think she could set up a personal fiefdom beyond any opposition of Cabinet and that is just not the way the system works. Her only power is derived through the Cabinet and not in spite of it.

Quite frankly there is a valid case for allowing SNC Lavalin to bid on federal contracts despite outstanding criminal proceedings on the basis the economic welfare of its employees and country.

Trudeau's major flaw is that he cannot judge the character of competence of his appointees. He sees only their membership in some electoral demographic.. gender, ethnic, racial, religious. He has no core, no moral absolutes and, certainly no vision to rely on.

That said..

Trudeau is off to make another apology for some long past (so called) injustice against a designated victims' group. Another act of a PM without any sense of patriotic idealism and motivated by a crippling sense of guilt for being white, male, (ex)Christian, and European.

I was looking at his news conference this morning a thought of an old business adage. People don't 'grow' into office, they don't change after they are 21 and, they are exactly what they appear to be. His appearance is that of an effeminate weakling, lacking vision and confidence, and being led by events onto the rocks.

Never complain, never explain, never apologize.. just don't do it again. Trudeau is toast.

I note he is off flying around the country again . He must have the largest carbon footprint of any Canadian . In all my years I have never seen a Prime Minister tack on so many air miles , and that includes Mooserooney .
