On Trudeau's 2nd trip to China, time may be ripe to advance free trade
China keen to show it can build relationships with West, as U.S. backs out of global engagement

We do have to diversify and become less dependent on the US for trade etc.

What's your feelings on China's three main demands for free trade

1) More pipeline's and terminals to access their oil from the Prairies
2) No restrictions on owning resource and technological companies in Canada
3) More access to the Canadian agriculture sector

Canada prefers China over the US.

Not really. Just the left prefers totalitarian regimes over democracy.

I bet his official photographer is tagging along for the ride .

And his hairdresser.

With Trump's protectionism being a focus of his presidency......along with the US gradual withdrawal from the global stage......it is smart to expand into other areas . Should have been done before this. Canada might have become too complacent ..and the US behavior might be the catalyst that we need.

So why were you not concerned about Obummer's protectionist measures?

I was thinking more of how he ****ed the BC lumber industry with bullshit tariffs. I figured stopping XL would make Energy East fly but our greenies would rather import oil from foreign countries on the biggest pollution making transport system known to man than use a clean, safe pipeline.

If Obama did it then the oil jumps right out of the ground and straight into gas tanks and factories.

Montreal has a new Mayor that wants the line.

Trudeau must say yes to the pipeline and he already has done that.

The problem is that he is not the one who says.

The process of pipeline approval and building involves many authorities, and as someone who is familiar with many of those authorities I can tell you there is no way anyone is putting a new pipeline through BC. They will be fortunate if they get to expand the one that's there.

It is laughable to think that Justin Trudeau or any Prime Minister can simply OK something like that.

2 is a no go already and 3 is fine as long as Provincial laws remain intact for land ownership.

If you are talking about the P/L that Trudeau put Tanker restrictions on that China was in partnership with as a yes I guess whatever floats your boat. And yes any PM can give the order to put in a P/L that is in the best interest for the country, political suicide, but it can be done.
