'I don't know him anymore': Canadians losing family and friends over trucker protests
The trucker protest that paralyzed the nation’s capital for weeks not only destroyed Taryn Earle’s home, but a childhood friendship she had for nearly 40 years.
A resident of Ottawa, Earle saw her apartment building broken into by some of the demonstrators who formed part of the trucker convoy, many of whom came in to throw out their trash or use laundry machines to wash their clothes. Travelling anywhere in the city alone felt unsafe, Earle said, as she recalled protesters circling her neighbourhood on their trucks, blaring their horns, revving their engines and taunting people as they walked by.
Conditions became so unbearable that Earle ended up relocating just one week into the protest.
But what made matters worse was knowing a life-long friend supported a cause that was bringing harm to her and her community.
“It was happening in real-time and I was telling him about it,” she told CTVNews.ca during a phone interview on Wednesday. “I could not believe that he was planting roots in a movement that was terrorizing me.
'I don't know him anymore': Canadians losing family and friends over trucker protests
While trucker convoy demonstrations across several Canadian cities are being cleared out, tensions between family and friends remain. Psychologically Damaged:
The CBC has retracted a second story it reported about the Freedom Convoy that turned out to be fake.
The first was the absurd allegation that somehow Russians were behind the scenes pulling the convoy’s strings in an effort to destabilize the Canadian government.
Financial investigators couldn’t find a conspiracy by white supremacists, either – another of the Trudeau government’s biased allegations that the CBC swallowed whole, but that’s a different story…GUNTER: More falsehoods about the convoy are now being retracted — Toronto Sun

A second CBC news story, that was corrected this week, involved allegations made by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and by Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, that the convoy could only have raised all the money it did (nearly $10 million, twice, on two different crowdfunding platforms), as quickly as it did, if powerful international interests were funnelling in large sums.
These allegations have been thoroughly debunked by GoFundMe and by GiveSendGo, the second online fundraising platform the convoy organizers had to turn to when false allegations about unscrupulous donations and violence among protestors caused GoFundMe to freeze the first avalanche of contributions the convoy received.
Even the government’s own terror-financing investigators could find no sign of illegal money going to the convoy.
The CBC fell for this narrative from PMO and the Liberal caucus because, like the Trudeauites, the government-funded broadcaster wanted to believe it.
Despite the CBC’s repeated claims that it is a vital, tax-funded service because it is how Canadians tell one another their stories all across the country, it is, in truth, how woke, “progressives” in one part of the country reassure woke, “progressives” in other parts that they and they alone hold a monopoly, on intelligence, truth and compassion.
More about the Liberal Party corruption and disinformation, as well as the CBC’s disconnect from reality and the Canadian citizenry at the above link.
Got a lot of mileage though in the disinformation campaign of the NDP/Liberal non-coalition coalition before the non-coalition coalition was formally announced. The attempt to burn down an apartment building in Ottawa, which was so widely and wildly heralded during the Freedom Convoy protest, had nothing to do with the truckers
Rex Murphy: Will anyone apologize for falsely accusing truckers of attempted arson in Ottawa?
Please let this sink in. At the time, such was the volume of assumption, innuendo and outright allegation that everyone from Nanaimo, B.C., to Nain, N.L., formed the impression that this despicable action, an outrage by any standard, was the work of the truckers.
Not true. False. Nothing to do at all with the protesters. It was allegedly the work of two Ottawa miscreants who were working alone.
You will easily remember that the most grisly feature of this attempt to set the apartment building alight — the affair was caught on security cameras and made it all over the internet — was that the handles of the exit doors were taped shut, so that, had they been successful, residents would not be able to escape the inferno.
Those who saw that could not forget just how vicious the deed was meant to be and could not help but deplore the type of person who would contemplate such a thing. A lot of the contempt and anger it stirred was directed toward the innocent protesters. It’s important to note this.
"Consider the words of our current coalition co-prime minister, Jagmeet Singh, on this event. Singh had no doubt who was behind the arson. Here he is, in his own extravagant and completely erroneous words, speaking on the convoy protest in the House of Commons:
“This convoy protest is not a peaceful protest.… Violence is commonplace. We saw an example of this violence with an attempted arson of a downtown apartment building, where people started a fire and taped the doors closed when they exited. I ask members to take a moment to think what that means. They had the forethought to set a fire and then tape the doors so no one could escape. This is not isolated. There are ongoing examples.”

They missed one - given his complete lack of interest in "monetary issues" Canadians should worry greatly that this fascist is leading our country.Trudeau, with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s sweet compliance (weeks before their official engagement announcement) called up emergency powers, ran roughshod over civil liberties and let the banks loose on private accounts — all because they didn’t like a protest movement, but at least they make a cute couple.

The trucker protest was not an attempted coup. It was not a rebellion. It was not an assault on Canada’s democracy. It was none of those things.
It is a brazen thing to go to other countries like some John the Baptist for the democracies, shortly after having trampled all over the rights of those involved in a largely peaceful democratic protest.

The convoy protest was strong and present, but it was unthreatening and largely non-violent. It was superbly Canadian. It should not be slandered.
And it surely should not be used as some sort of example of anti-democratic forces by the leader of the country in which it took place. Most especially when he goes about the world delivering passionate defences of the idea of democracy itself.

To defend democracy, you should adhere to its principles. Don’t go to Brussels to preach what you skip over in Ottawa. Some examples:
For a start, don’t sic the banks on peaceful protesters.
Don’t call protesters racist and homophobic and characterize them as a fringe minority and stoke public anger against them with your extravagant and mean rhetoric.
Don’t rhetorically isolate one small portion of the Canadian population and paint them all as villains and seditionists and insurrectionists in a blatant attempt to whip up animosity towards them and their cause.
Don’t, as the leader of a democracy, claim they were out to overthrow the government. This is so much an overstatement it is really difficult to understand how some in the press actually repeated it.

It was plainly rubbish. If this was an attempted coup, a Che Guevara-style raid on the capital, it was the most amateur, inefficient and ludicrous coup in the history of coups. Was the plan to park the government out of power?
A leader preaching democracy abroad wouldn’t apply tactics that are more appropriate for the infiltration of ISIL terrorists to free citizens who have a legitimate beef with their government. He wouldn’t give himself the power to reach into personal bank accounts. He wouldn’t use the brute authority of the federal government to interfere with their fundraising.

All this being the case, maybe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should think twice before wandering into an international forum, during a time of real war and death, and evoking the Canadian protest in the context of Ukraine’s savage hurt and danger.
Ukraine is bleeding. Save Canada’s calmer disturbances for a different, less tragic moment.
Yet Trudeau seems to believe, and half the Canadian press seem willing to oblige his belief, that the Ukraine crisis can act as a hall-pass or a cover for his anti-democratic invocation of the Emergencies Act.

Our circumstances are not Ukraine’s. Not even close. Nor should they be a water slide from accountability for the most imposing invasion of civil rights in half a century. And yet, three weeks later, after all that, Trudeau went over to Brussels and presumed to tell European parliamentarians that, “The leaders of those convoys were effective in turning citizens with real anxieties against the system best suited to allay those concerns.”
He presumed to lecture them on “leadership” and confronting the threat posed by Russia. Yet, given his record, who is listening? Given his government’s treatment of veterans, who can believe his fealty to the Canadian military? Given his lack of interest in civil liberties, who would not question his commitment to democratic principles? This is indeed a sad moment — for Canada and its standing within the free world.
Besides, according to this guy on YouTube, if you get the vaccine, you get free 5G for life! The convoy to and long remaining in Ottawa is very questionable at best, just from two aspects........................the utter waste of a valuable resource, not to mention money and the postponement of progress in addressing global warming mainly due to people listening to politicians instead of people in the know like scientists and medical doctors. The old line about not knowing what is being injected into our arms is getting overworked. We don't have to know, trusted and knowledgable people who do know. They are called doctors!
