I don't know how highly evolved they are, but they do seem to be smarter than us sometimes.
We are told that ship traffic is very bad for them as it interferes with their ability to find fish and communicate with each other. If they are so smart why do they insist on hanging around areas with heavy ship traffic like Juan de Fuca and Georgia Strait? Must be because of all the salmon we keep feeding them with all our salmon hatcheries here on the coast. Oh yeah, and we are also going to have the ships slow down for them as they pass through these waters. Guess whose going to end up paying the extra cost of that.
I think whales are highly overrated. They are good for nothing and they gobble up a huge amount of a valuable resource.

LIE-berals want to price gouge us on electricity for their fancy and costly electric Toy vehicles so they seek to shut down all oil production regardless of the cost!
And they blame the death of a lone sea creature on whatever and whomever they dont like!!!!!!
AS fro whales and ships- the BIG PROBLEM is not the ships themselves but the SONAR which is used mainly in Navy training exercises for hunting submarines- and which- depending on how far the whale is loud enough to damage whale hearing- sometimes permanently!!!!!!
Radar on the other hand is apparently irrelevant to whales!

this is actually a factor in the pipeline thing because the Residents depend on salmon and even more specifically Sockeye. The spill scenarios are extremely destructive for Sockeye.
Oh?? I was not aware that oil tankers ate Salmon or Halibut?
And as Salmon spawn in mountain river to shallow for tankers I suspect Salmon Fry will not be much affected!!!!!
And Salmon spend most of their adult lives in deep oceans- so a spill means little to such deep water fish- unless of course it occurred
during the BRIEF Salmon run up river.........but NOBODY is saying we should not have tight regulations for moving oil- what we ARE

Oil has been shipped out of Burrard Inlet since the 50s - never a tanker spill. Alaska oil comes in through the Juan De Fuca strait to refineries on Washington state coast - never a tanker spill.
What are the odds that the Transmountain expansion would result in a tanker spill? Probably about the same as the odds of a plane crashing, getting killed in a car accident, or being hit while crossing the street - risks that people take every day.
