With the melting ice in the arctic we are going to need more battleships and fighter planes to hold on to our sovereign territory. The mineral rights alone are worth enough to buy fleets and fleets of jets. Russia is far to eager to go planting flags and claim arctic land as their own.

Funny. I thought that was Denmark claiming some island or other up there. The way I see it, the only one close enough to make any kind of legitimate but dubious claim up there is Greenland (and I think we can thump em). lol

I thought the SU-47 looked pretty nasty in comparison to the F-35. I think if I were making the decisions, I'd be investing in the Russian bird.

It's hard to compare the Leopard and the Abrams, IMO. One is designed for maximising the crew survivability by protection (armor, detection, etc.) and firepower. The Abrams is designed for that purpose by focusing on firepower and mobility. Apples and oranges as far as I can tell.

Pretty does not make a fighter and nothing not even the SU-47 can hold a candle to the F-22. Hey, I still like the F-14, and have seen both the F-14 and F-22 in flight, I throw in the towel, the F-22 is the best fighter in the world.

As for the tank comparisons, I like the Leopard also, only because it is a newer tank. than the Abrams.

Our world leaders are a bunch of retarded adolescents with bloody big guns. Supporting these idiots is tantamount to blowing your own brains out. War is a child's game played in a sand box. Military brass never got past that stage because they never have to see the consequences of their orders. I say, put all the political and military leaders in an arena with swords and let them hack each other to pieces.

"Have you ever met any of those 'military brass"? How do you know what they feel? They didn't just 'appear' at the top, making decisions, they all started at the bottom. How can you make the assumption that they don'y know and they don't care? How do you know what they feel - how they make decisions? I know some of these people - they care. The people that actually make the decisions? They're the politicians and bureaucrats - the military can only advise and for the most part, their advise falls on deaf ears.

Why do we need an aircraft that is slower than the CF-18. Why do we need a stealth aircraft that
is only stealthy from the front? That stealth capability disappears completely if it carries weapons or external fuel.
We don't need a second or third best aircraft that costs $150,000,000.00/copy. Buying the F-35 would be a big mistake.
Because we have Space Command and KC tankers.

I didn't complain about the military going to war in Afghanistan, that too was and is a big waste of money. We have a landmass the size of Europe and no bases in the North? This is a joke.

Ever hear of a place called Cold Lake?
We ned to update our aircraft and this might be a good way to do it despite the optics. Remember what happened with the choppers Mulroney ordered and Cretin canceled. Cost us a bundle and we STILL have ancient Sea Kings. Of course they do have the advantage of doubling as submarines.

There are several bases 100km above your head doing the job patrols used to do for far less moolah and manpower.

whether one agrees with war or not is beside the point. the pilots have to fly those planes, and
if I was a pilot I would appreciate my bosses upgrading my equipment every so often, to keep me
safe and up with the times while flying.
pilots aren't politicians, don't make the rules, don't start the wars, but they are the ones who
put their lives on the line, so lets take of them, and do it well.
