Re: Syrians In Ghouta Claim Saudi-Supplied Rebels Behind Chemical Attack

If this is true, our nightmare is beginning, we are going to see ignorance
in charge of deadly weapons. What we are watching is a civil war and
there is nothing civil about it. If we keep sticking our nose in where it does
not belong we risk ending the distraction, and people will realize we have
been at war with Islam since 2001.
when civilization made up on educated and skilled people ignore ignorance
they become victims of their actions.
Why are we not looking for more than one evil doer? Assad is a nasty piece
of work, but those who replace him are evil and insane

The invasion of Afghanistan was started by Bush, was generally supported by the Republicans, Democrats, and had wide appeal among the populace. It was also supported by NATO (which includes Canada) and several other countries all of whom sent troops there, some of whom never came back.

Just FYI.

The US, and all nations that fought as American allies, have suffered a political defeat in Afghanistan. A political defeat has the same consequences as a military defeat. All who died did so in vain.

Just so everyone is clear on this...Canada is among the losers of the war in Afghanistan. There is no getting around that fact.

Senate panel votes for use of U.S. military force in Syria - The Globe and Mail

The full Senate is expected to vote on the measure next week. Obama’s top advisers on Wednesday took the argument for action to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where the support seen in the Senate will be harder to find.

The resolution would permit Obama to order a limited military mission against Syria, as long as it doesn’t exceed 90 days and involves no American troops on the ground for combat operations.

The Senate committee vote was 10-7, with one senator voting present. It marked the first time lawmakers have voted to authorize military action since the October 2002 votes giving President George W. Bush the authority to invade Iraq.

I agree on both points.

They like skittles, rainbows, pots of gold and moonbeams alright. Bunch of tough-as-nails real dudes.

Ed Markey voted “present” on the Syria resolution. Why?

“The resolution as currently drafted contains language that could be interpreted as expanding the scope of the U.S. military action beyond merely the degradation and deterrence of Assad’s chemical weapons capability.

“The current version of the resolution goes beyond the President’s objective of responding to the use of chemical weapons to call for a broader U.S. political and military strategy in Syria that includes expanded support for various opposition groups, efforts to limit support for the Syrian regime from the Government of Iran and activities to isolate terrorist groups in Syria.

“Although some of these may be desirable objectives, as written they could result in deeper U.S. military involvement in a country inflamed by sectarian violence.

“In the days to come, I will further examine the classified intelligence information and consult with experts before deciding how I will vote on the final resolution when it is considered on the Senate floor.”

Markey’s “present” vote, of course, doesn’t hold a candle to then Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) voting “not proven” on the impeachment of Bill Clinton — citing, wait for it, Scottish law.

I think it's a little early to tell, with Afghanistan. When I was in Kabul, they were putting building up, the poor were getting aid, the kids were going to school and they'd even started garbage collection. Who knows how long that will last after the troop withdrawl. But at least twelve years of relative peace isn't a bad thing.

And Afghanistan could split along ethnic lines. North-South.
