My problem Cliffy?

The #metoo movement would have you believe that The Benny Hill Show is a documentary about sexual assault.

My favourite line ever from the TV show MASH was when Trapper John says...

"You peek into one shower and you're labelled for life."

I was quite 'the masher' in my salad days, Cliffy. I never had to force myself on any girl...they all came running after me! ;)

Anyhoo...what is the upshot of all of this? Shall I put it all in a nutshell?

Two lives irreparably damaged...both parties receiving death threats...because of a drunken teenage house party 36 years ago.

Interesting. Did not expect that. Good though.
Kavanaugh was sniveling that he "already had to wait a week", showing his sense of entitlement to a near half century appointment directly affecting the lives of hundreds of millions. I sure as hell was not impressed at the way that he conducted himself.

Kavanaugh came across to me as a little unhinged...not the proper temperament for the highest court in the land.

Ford came across as credible. I know in her mind she felt she was sexually violated. I'm just not so sure if a one-off drunken teenage horseplay incident nearly 4 decades ago would result in a lifetime of suffering for any other woman.

Kavanaugh should have cut his losses and simply admitted he made a teenage boyhood mistake. That scenario would cost him his coveted seat, but it would have at least left his reputation and dignity intact. When someone is forthright, we tend to be willing to give that second chance.

Even if he gets the nomination, a cloud will forever hover above his head. A real man would have shown empathy for Ford, and admitted his youthful transgression.

Admit to something you didn’t do, just like in any totalitarian state.

Admit to something you didn't do??

Dr. Ford looked like a frightened little school girl during her testimony. Her credibility was off the charts. It's obvious Kavanaugh was extremely drunk and horseplayed with her. There's no doubt in my mind about that after witnessing her testify.

I saw Kavanaugh's testimony. Is this really the man they want as the next member of SCOTUS?

Someone who defends his and his family’s honour, yer damned right this is the kind of man I’d want on the country’s top court.

Well, I've spent much of the day both listening to it on the radio and watching it on the idiot box and quite frankly I'm on the fence. One thing that is fairly obvious is they BOTH seem to believe what they are saying. To Kavanaugh's advantage there are 60 women supporting him who knew him in school or college. What it will probably boil down to is innocent until proven guilty or put another way he said, she said! The entire charade is probably a waste of time.

Let's not forget Ford's best friend she named to be there at the time of the incident denied she was there, Ford's excuse she is having health issues and doesn't want to be apart of this.

And as the circus rolls out of town, the fading notes of the calliope seem almost mournful as we gaze across the trash-strewn field where, just a few hours ago, we were riveted by the acrobats and the clowns.

And on it goes as the time ticks down to the vote. Each side firmly entrenched in their own positions. Taking turns giving their versions of what they saw and heard yesterday.

"Inter-galactic freak show" - John Kennedy (R-LA)'s description of the hearings yesterday.

One of the Senators speaking today read a statement from Dr Ford's best friend that though she doesn't remember the incident........she does believe Dr Ford.

I'm quite content to be at home today watching history unfold - ugly, nasty, partisan and bitter as it may be. It will be a wonderful story to share with my great-grandchildren one day.
