there must be so many people who could stand before a
group of students and say positive and constructive and
interesting things, 'who' never will be asked because they
are not controversial or don't bring such attention to
themselves, and sadly their intelligent and helpful points
they would give to the students will forever be lost.

Not really.

I've heard many people speaking at institutes of higher learning.

YOU (as most people don't), just don't hear about them because 1, You likely aren't on an emailing list. 2, Aren't in the habit of watching upcoming speakers or events on bulletin boards. 3, Really don't care much about it, until it hits the news.

Had Ann Coulter been some benign commentator, no one would have known she was even here. Except of course, those of us who pay attention to such things.

I was mentioning people who 'will never' be asked, not
people who are asked, then are uninteresting. Perhaps it
is the responsibility of people in the institute who do
the asking to 'find' people who would really serve a purpose, and also be interesting and give the students
something to think about.
She is no different than asking any stand up comic, who
will throw out rude remarks, and make young people giggle,
and think she is 'neat', which she isn't, as they will learn
when they develope more brain cells, in later years, and
realize they were easily drawn into her 'web', exactly as
she had planned it. (money, money, money), that is what
it is for her, and teaches them 'nothing'.

And why was Coulter not a good choice. Listening to and being forced to counter a reasoned rebuttal, is an excellent educational process.

And given the list of speakers at the Universities these days, i don't think to many deep thinkers or people of real quality are being left out.

Northern Ontario,
Finding someone "interesting" after all, is just a point of view?

Some people would find Al Bore interesting while I wouldn't......:p

My point exactly. Just because I don't agree with someones ideology or what they have to say, doesn't mean I don't find them interesting.

Some of the most interesting people I would like to hear speak are what would commonly be described as "anti Israeli".

someone deep was left out, when she took their place, unless of course she was
only taken on as entertainment, which would explain it for me.

And, of course this is my opinion, and what I truly think, which is fine, as I
have listened to her speak many times on fox news, which fits her perfectly,(when I used to watch it, haven't
now since the election), and I heard her on a couple of other venues too, can't
remember now what they were.
she takes the stand of a right wing fundamentalist, not sure if she is really
like that, but talks that way.

Ann Coulter is a smart woman...smart enough to have figured out that in America, being a good looking woman with extremely controversial opinions (racist-extremist) can bring attention and that can translate into big, very big money when played right

In the states, controversy attracts an audience, and when you look good on TV, so much the better....it means a guaranteed audience...that means oodles of money for the show, the station, the network...and of course the controversial 'pseudo-intellectiual' guest.

She's a clown, an entertainer, albeit one with extremely objectionable comments, a Don Rickles gone completely beyond the pale. And although she seems to have little knowledge of geogrpahy or history or anything beyond the US borders, I have a sneaking suspicion that she doesn't really subscribe to half of the obnoxious statements she makes,...doing it merely for the shock value--which means big dough.. and anyone who takes her seriously or otherwise ascribes to any of her extremely objectionable comments, strikes me as a scary person.

OMG!!!!

I am filled, simply overwhelmed with glee!!!!!!

Remember the warning sent to Ms. Coulter by the University of Ottawa's vice-president, Francois Houle????? That sneering piece of garbage, dripping with superiority while threatening dire consequences should Ms. Coulter not "educate" herself on what it is permissable to say?

Turns out it was Alan Rock, (dumbass, pissant, former Liberal Minister of Justice, and the man responsible for the Firearms Act) urged him to write it!

I love it!

Alan Rock disgusts me.

That's all she does is complain about other people. I have no use her.

Not that I agree with that statement completely, but isn't the the job description of a "political pundit"? Neither do I really, other than entertainment purposes, the other purpose of a political pundit, IMHO.
No, she attacks people at the core and I don't find her entertaining.
