One of the first acts of the Conservatives when they came to power was to fix election dates on a set four year term......therefore, by law, the next electtion is supposed to be Oct. 19, 2009, unless the gov't loses a confidence motion in the House.

Constitutionally, however, Harper can go to the GG and ask her to disolve the House at any time..........

Socrates is corect in this case.

What a joke this is if anybody thinks about it, Harper in his quest to have a more open and accountable government always ranted about how governments can pick election dates if it was politcally sound for them, but this bill dosen't change that at all, I certainly hope people are smart enough to see this act was merely a waste of paper and time.

O BS. Although I agree that Harper painted himself into a corner on election dates, and should stick to the legislated agenda.

The Liberal Party practically destroyed this country.

What with the balanced budgets, debt reduction and high employment rate?

I guess you missed my post.....no matter, cons always need reminding how bad they are at fisacl management when they believe the Libs spend us into debt like drunken sailors while recent history says otherwise.

All very interesting since our surplus is shrinking at an alarming rate and we could see red this year while government spending has increased since the Tory's have come to power.

Bunch of clowns.....:clown:

A socialist (commie) government would strip us of assets and hand it to the stupid and the lazy. Or even worse give it to angry loners in their Moms basement, so I can see why you would want this beave.

Btw it's no longer a manufacturing economy it's a sevice and knowledge based economy and while housing is slumping this trend has happend before so don't worry the hard working rich folks will be just fine.;-)

If you don't like banks don't use them, nobody forced anybody to use a bank, it's about choice and a large part of the population have chosen to spend themselves into debt, that's not the banks fault, not the governments fault, it's the individuals fault.dink

"It's a service and knowledge based economy"."It's no longer a manufacturing based economy." Well Avro you have used the Globalist newspeak like they knew your kind would.
No country that eliminated it's manufacturing base in favour of service and finance has survived. You must produce extraction hollows out economys, strips assets. See Kevin Phillips Which individuals Avro? Choice of what? Housing will continue to slump, it's far from the bottom still. I know I heard an economist interviewed a couple of days ago, he forcast a turnarround in construction in a couple of years, he was lying through his teeth.

Finance Avro,it's a finance based economy. And that spells the end of it. If you do not produce sooner or later you will not consume.

What a load of BS you speak.

Okay, I'll bite, which country has collapsed because they have no manufacturing and became a service and knowledge based economy in the modern industrial era?

In fact, the only countries that have collapsed are commie ones, the very system you want the West to adopt.....idiot.

Do you donate the entire cheque book? I know Harper likes the blank cheque style of governing...

Don't forget about their slippery fundraising schemes.....

The Conservatives failed to report over $530,000 in donations to their party from their 2005 Convention, including a donation by Stephen Harper that was above the legal donation limit – in violation of the Elections Act. Only when the scandal was made public did the Conservatives admit wrong-doing and quietly repaid the funds. When the Conservatives tried to change the law to make what they had done legal, the NDP stopped them.

To go to the original point, I always thought that a fixed election date made no sense in a Parliamentary style gov't such as ours. I always thought it was a silly idea, so it doesn't bother me at all to skip it.

Hey wolf I'll bitch when I ****ing well feel like it, now you point to an election in Canada that fixed sweet **** all and I might rethink my position. Your vote enables the same swindlers to play the same games.

I can think of more elections that wrecked things than even came close to fixing anything ... especially when some slippery bugger split an apathetic vote and his followers turned out in droves - like the Free Trade and GST ones - or one where it came down to just a few more voters would have kept Bush as an also ran. Don't forget.... A spoiled ballot is also a statement. All that matters is getting your name stroked off the list. I bet you'd be one of the first ones to raise the alarm if they just up and wiped out your priviledge....

England, the Neatherlands, Spain, the list is rather long. You keep forgetting finance Avro, that is a major constituant part of the GDP. Get a clue will you. Manufacturing is six percent of what it was thirty years ago, no country can survive that very long. Cuba has not collapsed Avro.

Cuba is considered the one country in the world that has achieved a point of sustainable development. There is a very great difference between collapsed and being driven under by the capitalist pigs war machine, but we can't expect you to appreciate that can we.

What a load of garbage, Cubans live in abject poverty and come over in boat loads to Miami while evey other commie country has either collapsed or is about to. Fidels brother knows this and will begin the slow reforms that will hopefully lead them to prosperity.

As for your examples of collapsed economies, were they in the idustrial age? I thought not, try agin but you won't find any comrad. Keep dreaming though....hey if you move to Cuba you could live a dream world and you'd be the first imigrant they ever had.

I was actually here to read about the Canadian election but this could be good. I think I may have distracted you though. When you lack focus, as dropouts often do, you get distracted.

Oh I think you're a closet commie considering you think Beave would win over my capitalist ideas.

How low you have sunk to support the very ideology you hate as do I.

Are you really that desperate?

Betting on a commie?

Wow.

I am just banking on the hope he has an education and your previous track record. It is not very stellar.

Now please...discuss and entertain us as clowns.
