It's amazing how many people have Telus aircards for their laptops(me included) so you can have internet anywhere.Starting to see more vehicles with mounts in them for the computer.

Now peeps surf the net while cruising down the highway.

That is true. I have one of the USB Rogers versions of that card.. These are much faster and Telus is just getting them with 3G speed now. Aircards and USB Wireless sticks are totally different technology..

But that was not what I meant.. I was talking standard home internet wirelessly.. 802.16 technology..

Get Educated.

If you have never read the The BioInitiative Report you should. Then I would like to hear comments on getting cell phones and tower in New Denver. Do some research into George Carlo's work. Industry paid him to do research on it and when he didn't report what they wanted him to report they never released his findings and fired him. Here is a good presentation Scientists Believe Your Cell Phone Is a Death Trap
People wake up this is the 21 century tobacco only way worse. If you have a children or grand children we really need to look deeper into this.
I used to love my cell not anymore.

That article "Scientists Believe..." is a good one. Couldn't see the video at my end due to low-speed dial-up but the writing made a lot of (scary) sense! And those are facts, not "anecdotal" info., as some are fond of saying.

The oderless colorless killer. The Cell tower is the 2nd hand smoke....200 % increase in brain tumors since cell phones first came on the scene. Now we have wireless everything. We need to get hardwired again. What is this doing to our children???

Killing them, just like much of the food we feed them. We are indeed a very strange society. There are only 2 basic reasons why we do these things: 1. We don't know any better, or 2. We don't care. I think the answer is No. 1 (because I try to think positively) so the solution might be to keep on spreading the word. Somehow. Maybe some of it will filter through the radiation belts surrounding the heads to which cell phones are semi-permanently attached. I hope.

Cell phones should come equipped with a taser device that zaps the user after say 5 minutes. Might do more good than a cell phone as it may jump start their brains again.

That's the argument I like: I don't like it, so you're not allowed to have it.

Its worked for churches for hundreds of years. Why not a few retreaded hippies? The location of the tower is a red herring. It already exists and if they proposed a new site some one with too much time and no job would complain about that as well. If just one life was saved because somebody could call for help on a cell phone it would be worth it.

For one thing - it depends on what you are cooking. For those of us who prefer salted veggies, the micro-wave is great because there is no need to add salt. Stove top cooking requires salt for flavour. I don't know how food cooked over a wood stove could possibly taste any different than an electric or even a gas stove. The wood stove is just something you have no control over the heat of. It's either too hot or too cold and generally speaking, I think food cooked via stove (cook) top depends on the "cook" for it's flavour rather than the stove itself. I would agree that in most cases micro-waves are best for re-heating food rather than cooking it but it does have some use. Totally screws up most meat. Wood stoves are great in winter just because they are like a fire place to cuddle up to. We used to have breakfast around the oven door.

Microwaves destroy the goodness in food. But then most nuker food has no health benefits anyway.

It looks like the "retarded hippy ludites" have lost. Paper said today the yes vote won.
By the way, many of those opposed were doctors, lawyers and business people.

I knew a guy who had a cell phone tower near his property and he died of cancer two years later.

The people that installed the tower aimed the transmitter towards the guys house by mistake and he developed cancer all over his body.

The cell phone company paid millions to the family with a non-disclosure clause and bought the property so they could keep up the appearance of cell phones and towers not being harmful

This is a bit like today's food. Hey, if it's there and being used/bought by everyone else, it must be good, right? Well, maybe not.(I personally don't like the thought of eating degreaser (trisodium phosphate or TSP) in my breakfast, a la Cinnamon Toast Crunch (read the label)...I don't give a damn what they say, TSP isn't made to be eaten! Period. It might be worth it for some people to check out a few facts on cell phone radiation...it's a pretty new subject, but take a minute to type in "cell phone radiation" into the Google search window and have a browse. It's always nice to get some facts before making up one's mind on anything.

Well, we just can't have a few people our there who haven't fried their brains on their cell phones. We all must mutate together other wise those with in tact brain cells might just get a little uppity on us now, and we can't have that.

Mornin' Cliff. I'm not disagreeing with you but I have to wonder how many doctors and lawyers there are in a town of 600 people (that was the population report in the paper). When I lived up Island in a town of 2500, we had 3 doctors during the day from Mon - Friday and we eventually got one lawyer.
According to the article, Telus states they are adding one tiny tower on top of another existing tower.

Many people who live there are retired. Nakusp has 4 doctors and at least 3 lawyers that I know of. We must be in a higher income bracket than Nanimo.:p

EMF includes the entire spectrum of frequencies from am radio waves to gamma rays. So to say that EM waves cause cancer is true and irrefutable. The band of waves that cell phones transmissions are in, is below that of visible light, better yet, below that of infrared waves emitted from our own bodies. Microwaves are also below the visible light spectrum and can excite water molecules to heat up food if a significant intensity is achieved. Exposure to microwaves at high intensity would have the same effect of your body, boiling the water, and burning you from the inside. Even at extreme intensities, microwaves, and any waves below the visible light spectrum do not have the capability to break ionic or covalent bonds in molecules, in particular DNA or RNA. This is not to say that low frequency transmission do not pose health concerns, it is simply not possible for low frequency emissions to cause cancer on their own.
If you don't want cancer, stay indoors on your cell phone and don't go outside, because ultraviolet light from the sun will give you cancer.
@Susan:
do you have a better citation for George Carlo? I can not find a paper by him published in a respected independent medical journal. The only source I can find is holistic medicine journal.
I know the town of New Denver very well. Many locals have a simplistic, low impact, laid-back life style that I find attractive and have incorporated into my own life. It is not surprising that they resist the tower. Several organizations in the valley have resisted similar infringements on their way of life; including power boats on the lake, ski lodges etc. I would suggest that if the main goal of the resistance is to prevent an influx of new tourists, a cell tower will likely not increase tourism as people go to New Denver to get away from the bustle of city life. Cell coverage in the New Denver - Silverton area would be significant safety asset (as someone already mentioned) for all the prospectors, forestry workers, hikers, skiers, and mountain bikers that take advantage of one of the best places you'll ever visit.
