The provincial government is hoping for a portion of the Low Carbon Economy Fund despite not signing onto the national climate change plan.

The Saskatchewan government has followed through on its promise to apply for federal climate change funding despite being told it is not eligible for $62 million initially earmarked for the province.

Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund includes $1.4 billion for provinces and territories that have signed the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.

Last summer, federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna warned Saskatchewan it would not receive its share unless it signed on to the national climate change plan — and imposed a carbon tax — something the province is still adamant it will not do.

“We’re very hopeful that the federal government will reconsider the position that they’ve taken,” said Saskatchewan Environment Minister Dustin Duncan. “If this is really about reducing emissions, then there really isn’t a reason why the federal government should deny Saskatchewan these dollars.”

The province submitted 11 projects, which it says will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 188 million tonnes from energy and power production, water, forests and agriculture. The costs of the projects total more than $200 million and will be part of the province’s Prairie Resilience climate change plan.

Some of the projects include serving new communities with natural gas, solar panels at 12 SaskWater facilities, a residential home retrofit program, pasture seeding, a mountain pine beetle surveillance program and an emission-free oilfield microgrid project.

These idiots are working toward a no carbon future. In the great scheme of things 188 million tons is chicken shjt. Any moderate volcanic
activity can produce that in a couple of minutes, idiots.

What is obviously needed is a twelve hundred million dollar study of Carbon done by carbon independant experts.

certified international independant carbon cycle experts.

Once we have crops recognized as "carbon sequestration" carbon footprint goes bye bye and we are net producers of O2.

Sounds like money.

However, it is supposed in solar radiation circles that fluxuation entails somewhat greater input of an unverifiable state/mechanism offered by suggested models.

I,m very much convinced and afraid of the enevitable cold to come. I operate best in a somewhat narrower band of cosmic radiation. Very likely because of our treatment of the bees.

Sask calling the Fed gvt's bluff.

... Can't say that I think that this will work out well for Climate Barbie

I think the Carbon question deserves some disinterested attention right after they explore the H2O sequestration issues. There must be someway to get rid of all this water.

If by disinterested attention, you mean worthy of a head shake and a good laugh, then count me in.

By the by, I will heartily back your move to have H2O put under the gun as an eco-baddie and tax the sh!t out of it ~ for Gaia of course

Wheat is one of the world’s most favoured food sources, reaching millions of people on a daily basis. However, its production has climatic consequences. Fuel, inorganic fertilizers and pesticides used in wheat production emit greenhouse gases that can contribute negatively to climate change. It is unknown whether adopting alternative farming practices will increase crop yield while reducing carbon emissions. Here we quantify the carbon footprint of alternative wheat production systems suited to semiarid environments. We find that integrating improved farming practices (that is, fertilizing crops based on soil tests, reducing summerfallow frequencies and rotating cereals with grain legumes) lowers wheat carbon footprint effectively, averaging −256 kg CO2 eq ha−1 per year. For each kg of wheat grain produced, a net 0.027–0.377 kg CO2 eq is sequestered into the soil. With the suite of improved farming practices, wheat takes up more CO2 from the atmosphere than is actually emitted during its production.

That doesn't account for carbohydrates in the grain it's self.

Sounds like money.

Cold isn't an issue.

I agree with darkbeaver in that I worry about the bees - climate change, not so much. Actual polluting factors such as pesticides that affect bees is much, much, much more important than carbon or any climate change.

Through the prairie if it weren't for signage you'd never know there are pipelines under the crops.

Even on the Island the pipe runs mostly along the power line RW. People wouldn't even know it is there without the signs. I wonder how many of the anti everything crowd even know it crosses under the ocean in two places?

REfusing to remit equalization payments should do the trick.

I sure hope that Moe has the kahunas to apply a stop payment to the Feds on Sask's transfer payment.

Poor ole JT would crap his pants... On the upside though, he'd have a great opportunity to play dress-up whilst changing his drawers

Funny how the antieverything crowd have no issues with those pipelines that dump raw sewage into the ocean.

Setting up for the upcoming court case real life change vs virtual change through taxation a really strong argument depending on the judge ;)

We still have Crowns and Crowns are are tax exempt but not under this Fed carbon tax. It's illegal.

It's why Ontario sold all theirs off so they could be taxed.
