Sarah Palin misfires with oil spill comments - Nova Scotia News - TheChronicleHerald.ca

"WASHINGTON — She’s blamed environmentalists for helping cause the catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, accused U.S. President Barack Obama of using the oil spill to raise energy prices and urged the White House to contact the Dutch because "they are known for dikes."

Sarah Palin — the guiding light of the foundering Tea Party movement whose energy mantra is "drill, baby, drill" — is back in the national spotlight in the midst of the worst environmental disaster in American history. And Democrats are likely grateful for it.

Even Bill O’Reilly of Fox News, the cable news giant that gave the self-styled hockey mom her own show and frequently uses her as a commentator, seemed taken aback earlier this week when he interviewed the rambling Palin following Obama’s address to the nation about the spill.

He pressed the former Alaska governor, considered well-versed in energy issues, to explain what she’d do to plug the gusher several kilometres beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico that’s defied all human efforts to stop it for the past two months.

"The Dutch," said Palin, who insisted the Obama administration was refusing help from foreign governments. "They are known, and the Norwegian. They are known for . . . for dikes and for cleaning up water and for dealing with spills."

In fact, it was noted following her interview, many foreign nations are contributing to the efforts to combat the gusher, including the Norwegians and the Dutch — although in the early days of the spill, when oil giant BP was wildly underestimating the extent of the spill, their offer to help was declined.

"There are foreign vessels out there right now," Ken Wells, president of the Offshore Marine Services Association, said recently. Reports to the contrary, Wells added, are "misleading and misinformed."

Jeremy Mayer, associate professor of public policy at George Mason University in Washington, called the interview another embarrassing moment in the public spotlight for Palin.

"The Bill O’Reilly interview was disastrous because in addition to having her facts wrong, she was also asked what she would do to stop the spill, and she had nothing, absolutely nothing," he said.

And on a sensitive and traumatic issue like the oil spill, Mayer said, her remarks are angering even those who are miffed at Obama."

My god.... it's like she's the friggin Ralph Wiggum of US Politics, cripes...

"Excuse me Mrs. Palin, what solutions could you suggest to solve this oil spill crisis?"

"My mommy used paper towel to clean up her oil spill after the fat fryer fell on my head as a baby and now I always smell like potatoes, he he."

If a moron like Sarah Palin can make it into politics, run for vice president, later perhaps run for president, and a crap load of people still support her like she's got a friggin brain, then Jessica Simpson can create Cold Fusion and Warp Drive.

What's the topic?

How the hell did she ever make it this far, how can anybody in their right mind support such a ding bat and look at themselves in the mirror without punching themselves five times in the head and drop to the ground?

I was avoiding and leaving Palin and her stupid remarks well enough alone for my own sanity, but this I just couldn't slide by.

Thank Jebus Hughbert Christopher that by the time she plans on running as President that I'll be all the way on the other side of the planet away from the radioactive glow off in the horizon.

lol It's not her first faux pas, Prax. It probably won't be her last either.

Some people just aren't very skilled at thinking out loud in public. I can't help but think she has to be smarter than what she appears, but maybe when she tries to think on her feet, she can't do it? On the other hand, we have a co-worker who is like her, absolutely clueless, useless, and honestly not very bright, leaves you shaking your head everytime he talks to you, or sends an email.

No she isn't that bright. Scary yes, but she wouldn't be the first idiot elected US President.

Nice to see you up at a decent hour SJP. The wife must have yard work for you this weekend what. Harper idolized Bush? Certainly that idolization is the crux of the matter, when a person debases themselves before falsity and corruption, as our Mr Harper is wont to do, repeatedly, all chance of personal redemption is lost and only further and deeper shame waits to reward them. Once a man has gone down the hole as far as those two climbing back to human is impossible. Ms Palin will no doubt be a great comfort to them in whatever corner of hell they are eventually assigned.

So the new mantra for the Republican party is to complain about Obama because he doesn't seek enough help from Europe? What next, will Sarah make a plea at the UN for Scandinavian assistance? Will she use her binoculars to spot Russians and get their attention through smoke signals?

These are the very same Republicans who have such a low opinion of Europe, their political systems, their liberal, tolerant societies etc.
