I would agree to that as a temporary experiment, but we do run the risk of reverting to former practice.

Reinstitue
it if you're proven right. You can't just pile taxes on people permanently and then not acknowledge or reward when they work

There is no suitable alternative to picking up my dogs turds. When I'm shopping now I pull off a few extra veggie bags and put them in my pocket ready for my dog's next dump, and yes for all you wags, my dog dumps in my pocket.

I found the specific dog poo bags they sell with a dispenser at the dollar store were preferable. More bags in less space. Even though the dog is now gone, I still carry them for garbage... It seems there's always some need for them

We should first know how successful the program is, and the likelihood that it would continue to be successful if the fee is scrapped.

I for one find cloth bags preferable... I can't fathom going back. And I didn't even need a tax to spell out the benefit for me, so I have a certain amount of faith in people I suppose

I had a similar discussion about 'faith' with my father-in-law recently, where he lauded Singapore for charging $500 to anyone caught ashing their cigarette on the streets. Now that's definitely excessive, hehe.

Northern Ontario,
I have often seen, at the grocery store, people make a big show of bringing their cloth bag, and on their way out, miss the garbage can with their empty coffee cup and not bother to bend down to pick it up.
Are they Eco-hypocrites,? or too cheap to pay the damn nickle?

Either way, if you had said something, we might have had one less of them.

Certainly Ford can't affect Ottawa's bag fees? Did you really expect him to?

And he can't make greedy retailers not take in the 5 cents. All he can do is make it non-mandatory. Of course eventually somebody will start offering them free and competition will ensue.

This just highlights the stupidity of the original flucked up law by the flucked up mayor of the time. He didn't even do it as a tax but a levy for the retailers who happily pocketed it and used it probably for corporate bonuses.

Like I said before personally I would have left it alone as it has become a non-issue but I don't condem him for repealing it. Of course, it can be used as political foder for those who have run out of fat jokes.

I still use as many plastic bags as I used to but I just reuse them for kitchen garbage now. I refran from the cloth bags as I don't want to look like a dirty old hippie :p

Th petro-chemical plastic bag push came from oil companies as they funded greens to scare you off of paper and sell more oil.

Of course there is, bags designed to degrade much more quickly than a plastic grocery bag. Breaks down in weeks as opposed to decades. You can probably find them in your local dog park if you're too stingy to pay for your own pet.

Actually, the failure was Miller's and anyone that hypocritically supports putting money, by force, into the pockets of big business.
The mayor of Toronto is attempting to eliminate the levy, which raises millions for retailers annually.
That's just an awesome bylaw.

5.4million, gleefully accepted by big business, enforced by the city.

Even if he somehow manages to get rid of the fee, it's not like retailers are going to rescind the practice. We'll still be paying for them. I liked the idea the one Councillor had about the city collecting a portion of the fee to go towards replanting all the trees that were killed by that fungus or whatever the hell it was.
The whole of the tax should have been collected and gone directly into environmental/wildlife management in the city.

I would agree to that as a temporary experiment, but we do run the risk of reverting to former practice.

But Karrie, It's Ford that wants to rescind the bylaw!!!

We should first know how successful the program is, and the likelihood that it would continue to be successful if the fee is scrapped.
It was an extremely successful program. It successfully put 5.4million in the pockets of large companies.

Great program that is. If Harper or Ford did that, you'd lose your sh!t.

Either way, if you had said something, we might have had one less of them.
Lots of people have said something to you about your enviro hypocrisy. You haven't changed.

Suuuure you did. ;)
You don't know DaS. The environment isn't just a talking point to him, like it is to you.

You'd think there'd be "bigger fish to fry" in a city the size of Toronto. Maybe round up a few gangstas!

The ideologues have Ford.

That's all they need.

Nothing else matters. Not their principles. Not their credibility. Not the truth. Not the constituents. Not democracy.

Nothing.

Just attack Ford, at all costs.

If anyone cares to look it up Palmer Rapids is a twin stage back to back Country on one side Bluegrass on the other festival...

If one takes a walk in the stage area on both sides the morning after a show it's impossible not to see the difference.....empty beer bottles and general litter on one side and a well "policed" clean area on the Bluegrass side.
One reason I prefer Bluegrass festivals

Also why I have no use for the 99'ers;-)
