In full: Gun salutes mark Prince Philip's death across the UK and world

Gun salutes have been fired across the UK, in Gibraltar and at sea to mark the death of the Duke of Edinburgh at the age of 99.

Buckingham Palace said Philip died peacefully in his sleep at Windsor Castle on Friday, two months before his 100th birthday, leaving the Queen and the royal family "mourning his loss".

Saluting batteries began firing 41 rounds at one round every minute from midday on Saturday in cities including London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, as well from Royal Navy warships. Ships taking part included HMS Diamond, HMS Montrose and HMNB Portsmouth, while the Royal Gibraltar Regiment joined the salute from the British Overseas Territory, the Ministry of Defence said.

The action starts about 12 minutes into the video.

We'll be would have done. All people his age have been given the vaccine.

We give the two shots 12 weeks apart in this country, unlike other countries and the EU, because they're more effective that way.
Well...one of the two of them is still alive, so that's 50% worth it...either way you want it to work out.

Vanuatu tribe mourns death of their 'god' Prince Philip

Meetings have been taking place on the island of Tanna in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu to decide how to move forward following the death of Prince Philip, who was revered by a tribe there as a god.

Anthropologist Kirk Huffman, an authority on what is known as the Prince Philip Movement, told BBC's Today programme some of the islanders were meeting "to sort out what they will do to perform their version of respect rituals".

A decision is yet to be made on whether Prince Charles will succeed his father in the eyes of the tribe, Mr Huffman said.

"I think it’s something they will need to work out themselves," he said.

Prince Philip, who visited Vanuatu as part of his official tours, was not revered due to being a member of the Royal Family.

The believers say the duke - or at least the spirit he represents - came from Tanna, not Europe, Mr Huffman said, and they thought he was the reincarnation of an ancient warrior.

Vernon, B.C.
A soon as queeney croaks he inherits. YOu should know this. Despite her apparent good health she does not have all that long left.
Not so fast..............her mother went to 101, she might even improve on that! It might be best if she outlasts Charles.

Prince Harry will return to Britain for his grandfather’s Prince Philip’s funeral, but is expected to fly home solo as his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is heavily pregnant.

The 36-year-old British royal – who lives in California with his wife, Meghan and their son Archie – has reportedly been in touch with his father, Prince Charles, along with his cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as he makes plans to come home.

Speaking about Harry, who is “united in grief” with his family, a source told British newspaper the Daily Mirror: “He said he wants to be with everyone and was already making arrangements to come home.”

Meghan is not expected to make the trip to Britain for the funeral, as she is heavily pregnant with their second child.

The couple paid tribute to Philip, 99, in a short message posted to their Archewell website, where they wrote: “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. 1921-2021.

“Thank you for your service … you will be greatly missed.”

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan recently said they phoned Britain’s monarch Queen Elizabeth as soon as they heard Philip had been admitted to hospital earlier this year, with an infection and a heart condition.

Meghan, 39, said in her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey: “This morning I woke up earlier than H and saw that there was a note from someone in our team in the U.K. saying the Duke of Edinburgh had gone to the hospital. I just picked up the phone and I called the Queen just to check in. I just called, that’s what we do.”

Certainly a good looking couple (who probably had no idea we'd be admiring them in 2021)

They first met in 1934 when she was eight and he was 13 at the wedding of Philip's cousin Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark to Princess Elizabeth's uncle Prince George, Duke of Kent, son of King Edward V. They met again in 1937 and then again in July 1939 at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, when Princess Elizabeth, smitten by his godlike good looks, fell in love with him.

In 1941, American-born Tory politician Chips Channon wrote in his diary: "He is to be our Prince Consort, and that is why he is serving in our Navy."

On the day of their wedding, 20th November 1947, Princess Elizabeth's father King George VI made Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

Ontario lowered flags at Queen’s Park and all other provincial buildings to half-mast Friday in response to the death of Prince Phillip.

Premier Doug Ford offered condolences on behalf of all Ontarians to Her Majesty the Queen and the royal family.

“Prince Philip was a devoted husband of more than 73 years, father, grandfather, war hero and public servant,” Ford said in a statement.

“He leaves behind an exemplary legacy of outstanding service to society that reaches around the globe, especially through his Duke of Edinburgh Awards, an international program founded in 1956 that encourages youth to develop their highest potential in all areas of life.”

The flags will fly at half-mast until his funeral or memorial service, though the BBC reported that Prince Philip will not have a state funeral and there will be no lying-in-state, according to the College of Arms.
