I have had my anti American steaks over time but the Afghan situation is not one of them. I too
believe the whole world was attacked on 9/11 the attack was really meant to shock the world.
It was symbolic more than anything else, and as it has turned out it was the opening salvo
of a long and protracted conflict that will last probably for a generation so get used to it.
Neither side will step down anytime soon. I think it will also get a lot worse. Is America partly
to blame sure, just like Britain, France, and while we are at it why not the Roman Empire and
even Mesopotamia under Alexander the Greek. After all Alex waged war in the Middle East as
well. We are not going to change a thing as long as we want the modern conveniences of
life and depend on oil. In addition the Arab World wants to have all the luxuries for a few at the
expense of the many, while saddling them with the guilt of a religion that believes in suffering
here on earth, God they should have all become Catholics.
We have to change our attitudes about our neighbours in the Middle East but by the same token
they have to join the 21st century instead of clinging to some medieval past. The only way to stop
the stalemate is to make these countries stable enough to implement the stability of decent jobs
and middle income earners. In hand with that, the basics of practical education would also help.
At present self isolation is the biggest problem for the Arab World, and their self isolation is not
our fault, it is their own lack of confidence letting their people decide what is best for them through
democracy, and finding their own way as individuals.
For those who want to raise issues, it is not our fault. Yes they have been exploited just like our
natives were exploited, but they are getting over it as well without blowing anyone up, Why is it
that in this country we complain about the restitution for our natives but demand some kind of
political compensation for those in the Middle East.
Here it is, if we are going to get anywhere, we in the west need to apologize for all the things we
did to them, and in turn they, those in the Middle East, must join the rest of the world as a full
partner in world society. Anything short of that expect war for a long time to come. When civilizations
collide there is usually war that is the reality of history. Perhaps I have simplified it too much,
it is more complicated than that, however in the final outcome the solution is as simple as that and we
as humans always make it more complicated than life really is.
