Quebec doctor who killed kids freed from hospital

By QMI Agency

MONTREAL - Former cardiologist Guy Turcotte, who killed his children in a bout of depression after splitting with his wife, was released from his mental hospital Wednesday afternoon by a board of examiners.
Turcotte, 40, was ordered to meet certain conditions -- get continued psychological treatment, live at an approved location and have no contact with his ex-wife.
The review board was told Turcotte shows no signs of mental illness, according to the team that's been treating him. He sees a psychologists once a week for an hour.
The only medication he's taking is for hair loss, the board heard.
The grandmother of Turcotte's two slain children -- Olivier, 5, and Anne-Sophie, 3 -- vented her rage after their killer father argued during the hearing that he was ready to be discharged from a mental hospital.
Turcotte said he has rubbed elbows with children several times during unescorted sojourns from the Pinel institute where he's been held since a jury found him not criminally responsible for killing his children in 2009.

In a verdict that provoked outrage across Canada, a jury last year agreed with the former cardiologist's claim that his crumbling marriage made him depressed and suicidal, and that he blacked out when he stabbed his children 46 times in a rented home in Piedmont, Que., north of Montreal, on Feb. 20, 2009.
The Crown is appealing the verdict.
As his ex-wife and former mother-in-law looked on, Turcotte told the review board that he doesn't pose a danger to society.
"I walk everywhere in the city," he said. "I'm in the crowds."
A psychiatric report indicates Turcotte shows no "signs of mental illness" and isn't taking psychotropic medication.
But ex-wife Isabelle Gaston, who worked with Turcotte at a hospital north of Montreal, said she still feels threatened by the killer.
Gaston's mother, Rachelle, vented to reporters during a break in the hearing.
"It's a real shame," she said. "He can sleep, but I don't sleep anymore!"
She predicted it was only a matter of time before he'd be back on the streets.
"He'll be released. He's a manipulator right to the end."

This whole situation is sickening. You just want to smack that smug grin off his face.

"I walk everywhere in the city," he said.
Is it too much to hope that he walks in front of a bus?

Nice justice system we have. Kill some one claim insanity , spend a couple of years in a resort courtesy of the taxpayers(including his victims relatives) and then get "cured" and back on the street.

A resort? A mental health forensics unit is no resort with all inclusive buffets, beverages and spas.

They have to work 8 hrs a day, buy their own toiletries, snacks, clothes, and sometimes even pay rent. If you don't, you're in 23hr lock up with zero privileges.

I really don't know where some of you people come up with these ideas of an easy life.

They can spot somebody faking a mental illness from a mile (1.6km) away.

Yup, TS thinks that anybody with a mental or physical disability is a parasite and living off the milk and honey of his tax dollars.

There is no milk or honey in a Forensics Unit, unless you work and buy it yourself or family brings you some.

Why not just kill all the mentally ill like they did in Germany 70 years ago or sterilize them like they did in the US up until 1973.

Nope just more dangerous! Children often can't recognize nuts, adults often can.
Really? You have to be 18 to vote and look at the politicians that get elected and are entrusted with your life in some instances. LOL

Certainly a lot better of a life than those three children had. He should be locked up for the rest of his life.

Those doctors are miracle workers aren't they? They seem to always be able to cure the s.o.b.'s that murder their kids. Wonder how come they can't seem to cure all the other mentally ill individuals in their care?

I can't speak for TS but I can tell you that I think any bastard that murders his own children should not be out walking the streets within three years.

But maybe all I'm concerned about is the freaking money too hey?

We all know they are all f**kin' nuts, we just try our best to choose the least nutty, besides most of them aren't into infantacide!

I'd also say that multiple (I believe in the neighbourhood of 16) stab wounds on each child further differentiates this bastard from flippant comparisons to politicians.

Yeah, that's a bit much for even the most obstreperous brat!

Obviously mental illness is easy to fake particularly by a doctor familiar with what they would look for.
