That was more or less the way I remember it, Talloola. One of the biggest changes I recall from the 60s was the advent of the philosophy of "doing your own thing" (didn't matter if and how it affected others)

Yeah, I remember that old saying, it was definitely was over used, and became dull
and meanlingless.

We watched the 'I Love Lucy' show for years, she was the funniest woman, and the show
was hillarious.
They took the lifestyle of the 40's and 50's and blew it up out of proportion, and that is
why it was so funny, the episodes were way out of reach of real life, no one lived like
that, and that is what made the show work, people saw that and and it struck the
funny bone, but she was a natural comic. In real life she was a very serious and almost
moody and not at all the kind of person she was in character on her show.
I'm sure sjp must see that, but if he actually takes away from her show that, it is a
realistic example of life in those days, then he has missed the point entirely, and lucy,
if she could, would be the first to tell him that fact.
Even back then, we (my friends/husband), made fun of women who wore the house
dress and apron all day, and greeted the husband at the door, hung up his coat, and
trotted around the house waiting on him hand and foot, those women were from my
mothers day, and very hard to find in the late 50's, and also the husband who expected
that treatment, were thinning out quickly, women had progressed beyond that stage,
and were cool.

Let us face it, in your zeal to trash me (and from what you have said about me so far, I think you automatically assume that everything I write is a total, bald faced lie), you were caught in a total untruth. You posted hastily without checking your facts first, you just couldn’t wait to claim that I was wrong.

Jeezuz Joey, you're losin' it.

Unnoticed decay of society:

-The increasing number of swearing being used in the movies and on television
-R-rated films charting at the top of the movie roster
-People killing each other over minor conflicts
-Individuals committing crimes and showing no remorse
-Television talk shows featuring topics straight out of the gutter
-Doctors helping people kill themselves
-The topic of the occult being addressed in children's shows
-The proliferation of psychic phone lines
-People suing for trivial reasons
-The meltdown of the legal system
-The ending of rules requiring a family hour on television
-The speed at which horrific murders are becoming old news
-Smut magazines now being found on most newsstands

According to atheism though, the world is getting "better".

Life was better in 1959! The still had prayer in schools!;-)

Yep, for all of the 20 seconds it took us to recite the Lord's Prayer.........Not sure if it did us a hell of a lot of good but I'm sure it didn't do any harm either. Either way it probably isn't a biggy.

Hmm ... some of that may be the result of people lacking in guidance ... people betrayed of trust.... Where do faith-come-fable and clergy molesting kids fit in?

Most of this can be attributed to Crowded Rat Syndrome. The population of the world has nearly tripled since 59.

Yes, Cliff I'm not sure if the actual population has increased that much or if it's just our ability to count higher..:lol::lol::lol::lol:

All good indicators and you can add to it number of children being raised by grandparents.

Grandparents are better parents. Young parents are too busy to dedicate the time that grandparents can. Besides, they have parented for most of human history. In tribal societies parents had to work just like today so the grandparents usually raised the kids. Most parents aren't qualified to raise their kids which is why the breakdown is happening.

You're sharp this morning Cliff, under 45s belong to the "Me generation", but then that's our fault for letting them get away with murder, may have had something to do with the transition to electric and gas energy hence all the woodsheds got torn down.:lol:

Go to any shopping mall and watch parent/kid interactions and the problem becomes obvious. Sometimes I think parents should be aborted at birth when I go to those places. Luckily there is no mall in Nakusp.

The mentality of some teenagers today is mind boggling- a 14 year old spending every nickel she earns baby sitting to pay for cell phone use so she can send text messages. Outfits like Telus encourage it. Is there no corporate morality today? This is just one step above priests buggering young boys and we allow them to get away with it.

The only thing that corporations are interested in is the bottom line. They have fostered an epidemic of mindless consumerism through billion dollar ad campaigns. I used to be in the ad racket but my conscience wouldn't let me continue. I know too much about the psychology involved and it is aimed at the lowest common denominator. Just about everything these days, from TV, movies, magazines are aimed at the lowest common denominator, thus resulting in the dumbing down of the population. Can't blame the kids. They are the victims of corporate malice.

Other than the 1800% inflation, inaction on pollution, massive debt, degradation of food, devastation of natural surroundings and the family unit. I'd say we are way better off.
