Obama's speech in support of continued Palestinian injustice and oppression while praising Arabs everywhere else for fighting against oppression and injustice didn't go over well with Palestinians, the Arab world and most of the international community. Obama is openly being called a hypocrite today.

I think that Abbas will table his request, and wait for new peace talks. But you along with many others ignore the consequences of a Palestinian State, Observer status only.
Another unintended consequence may be a self-inflicted wound for the Palestinians. By unilaterally declaring statehood and having that endorsed by much of the rest of the world, the Palestinian Authority could terminate the legal status of the Palestinian Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinians (a claim already vehemently rejected by Hamas and its supporters). But, at the same time, the creation of a new Palestinian state will immediately cast doubt on the future of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who live outside the West Bank and Gaza.
They risk becoming truly stateless and will lack any representation in international institutions.
Guy Goodwin-Gill, an Oxford University law professor who has been hired to give the Palestinian Authority legal advice, drew Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s attention to this possibility but he has been ignored.
More than half the world’s Palestinian population lives outside the West Bank and Gaza, Mr. Goodwin-Gill reminded Mr. Abbas.
