I'll counter you pull your head out your butt argument, with a "Colpy, you ignorant ****" retort. Seriously. Do you idiots believe that the more you insult someone the more you make your point? Grow up. I expect this crap from Goober and his ilk, but even Colpy seems to be lowering himself into the mud. If you want a debate, please stick to the facts.

Nazi Europe was a dangerous place for Jews. But by 1947, the Nazis were defeated and its a fact that Jews had little to fear in Europe. But if they had a problem staying where they had been persecuted for centuries, then they could have come to Canada. If anyone thinks Canada isn't a safe place for Jews, then please make your point and back it up with proof. Please list the atrocities Canadians were committing against Jews in 1947 and provide links. Otherwise you idiots should admit you are inventing stuff and that Canada was a safe place for Jews in 1947 and still is. Besides Canada, Jews were safe in the US and most of the rest of the world. One of the few exceptions would be Palestine, where the locals had grown increasing hostile towards a tidal wave of Jewish refugees fleeing Europe.

Are you guys saying that Canada was more of a threat to Jews in 1947 than what was going down in Palestine in 1947? You guys need to learn history.:

Palestine 1947
An eight-man gang from Jaffa, led by Seif al-Din Abu Kishk, ambushed the bus killing five and wounding others. Half an hour later they ambushed a second bus, southbound from Hadera, killing two more. Later that morning, Arab snipers began to fire from Jaffa's Manshiya neighbourhood into southern Tel Aviv, killing at least one person. Shots were also fired at Jewish buses in Jerusalem and Haifa.[29]

Irgun and Lehi followed a strategy of placing bombs in crowded markets and bus-stops.[30] As on 30 December, in Haifa, when members of the clandestine militant Zionist group, Irgun, threw two bombs at a crowd of Arab workers who were queueing in front of a refinery, killing 6 of them and injuring 42. An angry crowd killed 39 Jewish people in revenge, until British soldiers reestablished calm.[31][32] In reprisals, some soldiers from the strike force, Palmach and the Carmeli brigade, attacked the village of Balad ash-Sheikh and Hawassa. According to different historians, this attack led to between 21 and 70 deaths.[33]

On 22 February 1948, supporters of Mohammad Amin al-Husayni organised, with the help of certain British deserters, three attacks against the Jewish community. Using car bombs aimed at the headquarters of the pro-Zionist Palestine Post, the Ben Yehuda St. market and the backyard of the Jewish Agency's offices, they killed 22, 53 and 13 Jewish people respectively, and injured hundreds.[34][35] In retaliation, Lehi put a landmine on the railroad track in Rehovot on which a train from Cairo to Haifa was travelling, killing 28 British soldiers and injuring 35.[36] This would be copied on 31 March, close to Caesarea Maritima, which would lead to the death of forty people, injuring 60, who were, for the most part, Arab civilians.[37]

Between December 1947 and January 1948, it was estimated that around 1,000 people were killed and 2,000 injured.[38] By the end of March, a report stated that 2,000 had been killed and 4,000 injured.[1] These figures correspond to an average of over 100 deaths and 200 injuries per week, all of this in a country with 2,000,000 inhabitants.
1947

Canada 1947
Roughly 40,000 Holocaust survivors came during the late 1940s, hoping to rebuild their shattered lives. In 1947, the Workmen's Circle and Jewish Labour Committee started a project, spearheaded by Kalmen Kaplansky and Moshe Lewis, to bring Jewish refuges to Montreal in the needle trades, called the Tailors Project.[19] They were able to do this through the federal government's "bulk-labour" program that allowed labour intensive industries to bring European displaced persons to Canada, in order to fill those jobs.[20] For Lewis' work on this and other projects during this period, the Montreal branch was renamed the Mosihe Lewis Branch, after his death in 1950. The Canadian arm of the Jewish Labor Committee also honored him when they established the Moishe Lewis Foundation in 1975.[21]

Back on subject. Negotiations with Israel are a proven dead end. The whole point of taking this to the UN General Assembly is to expose U.S. duplicity and exposes the falseness of the notion of the US being an "honest broker" in the Middle East.

I can't speak for the idiots. But I can speak for myself.

I've tried debating you EAO. As soon as the evidence mounts against your agenda, you ignore it, or dismiss it, without ever even trying to formulate a reasoned rebuttal.

Since I realized you are not interested in growing, learning, coming to an agreement. Contempt is all your bullsh!t is worth.

If you want a debate, please stick to the facts.
Take some of your own advice.

You run on anecdote, unproven claims, generalizations and slander as a rule.

Olmert condemns settler 'pogrom'

Cars and homes were burnt as settlers rampaged after the eviction

Outgoing Israeli PM Ehud Olmert has compared the violence used by Jewish settlers against Palestinians in Hebron to bygone anti-Semitism in Europe.
He told Cabinet he was ashamed by recent scenes in the West Bank city, which he said amounted to a pogrom.
The settlers shot and wounded three Palestinians and set fire to property after Israeli security forces evicted a Jewish group from a disputed building.

Correspondents say Mr Olmert's use of "pogrom" has particular resonance.
It is usually associated with the anti-Semitic violence Jewish people experienced in Europe and Russia in the 19th and 20th centuries.
"As a Jew, I was ashamed at the scenes of Jews opening fire at innocent Arabs in Hebron. There is no other definition than the term 'pogrom' to describe what I have seen," he told Cabinet members, according to public radio.
"We are the sons of a nation who know what is meant by a pogrom, and I am using the word only after deep reflection."
Video from an Israeli human rights group showed two settlers shooting Palestinian rock-throwers on Thursday.
About 600 Jewish settlers live in the city, with several thousand more in surrounding settlements.
It is not the first time Mr Olmert has used the word to condemn Jewish settlers - in October he described a rampage through a Palestinian village in the West Bank as a pogrom.

Who will protect Palestinians from growing settler extremism? - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News

From Amnesty International 2011 Annual Report regarding the ability of Israeli soldiers and settlers to attack and kill Palestinians with Impunity

Israeli soldiers, members of the security forces and settlers continued to enjoy impunity for human rights abuses committed against Palestinians, including unlawful killings. Settler violence included shooting at Palestinians and destruction of Palestinian property. In only extremely rare cases were the perpetrators held to account for their actions.

According to a detailed report on impunity published by the |sraeli human rights organization B’Tselem in October, the Israeli military killed 1,510 Palestinians in 2006-09, excluding those killed during Operation “Cast Lead”. Of these, 617, including 104 children aged under 18, were not taking part in any hostilities when they were killed. B’Tselem called for an investigation into 288 of the killings committed in 148 incidents, most in the Gaza Strip; investigations were opened in only 22 incidents, most in the West Bank. B’Tselem reported that only four investigations were opened within a month of the incident. In two investigations, the case was closed without any prosecution of the soldiers involved.

Olmert condemns settler 'pogrom'

So we have a respected Israeli PM preaching tolerance - Not hatred - Good to see. No one stated the Israeli settlers etc were all a bunch of angels - now consider the 800 K that live on the West Bank - what percentage do these particular ones count for - 1 in 10 K - 500 in 100 K - how many?

Thank you for using this to buttress my point on how civilized the Israelis are when it comes to intolerance.

So have you checked into that Jewish claim from your uncle yet. Are you or aren't you.
Oh yes - Please remember - the pointy end of the bullet goes in a direction away from you, include your feet next time.

Holy crap!!! 2008? Really?
Again, 2008?

It's 2011 EAO, please do try and keep up.
Why is it when anyone else uses an Op/Ed piece, you dismiss it with out a single attempt to refute it. But you post Op/Ed pieces like they're a factual news report?
Wow, that was chalked full of conclusions and no facts to support them.

Are you still confused as to why you receive so much contempt?

This is exactly why you are treated with contempt. You have NO understanding of history, and you are completely blinded by your neurotic distrust and disgust for Jews........your dislike is obvious to anyone that has spent any time reading what you post, no matter how you try to hide behind "human rights" (while a fan of China!!!!). The only one who doesn't think you are obvious is YOU!!

Jewish persecution: 70 to 1200 CE

Jewish persecution from 1200 to 1800 CE

2000 year history of Jewish persecution

Now, that ends in 1946, with the Polish pogroms AFTER the German defeat.....although I don't know where they would find a Jew to kill!

And it is all coming back:

Anti-Semitism: Integral to European Culture - Manfred Gerstenfeld

Oh! And here is how Canada treated the Jews in the Nazi years:

None Is Too Many - A Cause For Canadians To Repent - Anti-Semitism and Holocaust

The ONLY solution was create a Jewish state....and where else but in old judea???

If you are a Jew with a brain, Zionism is ONLY good sense.

Its a fact, that in 1947, Canada wasn't just safe for Jews, we welcomed Jews:

After the war, Canada liberalized its immigration policy. Roughly 40,000 Holocaust survivors came during the late 1940s, hoping to rebuild their shattered lives. The Political Report
Despite of US threats to use Veto power, The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirms that the Palestinians are going to submit a request to the UN Security Council for full UN membership. IMEMC's Rami Almeghari has more:.IMEMC's Rami Almeghari has more:

The Palestinian Authority argues that the move is intended at making the international community involved in the peace process that has not achieved peace for the past two decades. Palestinians are determined to submit their request by next week.

Dr. Ghassan Elkhateeb is a spokesperson for the Palestinian government in Ramallah.

Actuality “In English"

" I think the essence of the Palestinian move is an attempt to attract the engagement and involvement of the international community to try to help in collectively the Palestinians and Israelis to move forward observe implementation of the international vision of peace which is based on a two-state solution"

Washington has said outright it would use it's Veto power in case the PA submits the request to the UN Security Council. Washington contends that a Palestinian state recognition should come through bilateral Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Meanwhile, some European countries have announced their favor of resumed peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinians.

Catherine Ashton, representative for the European Union, will be extending a visit to the region , in an attempt to push the pasties back to the negotiations table that Palestinians have abandoned due to continued Israeli settlements building on occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip including political factions and ordinary people have had different views towards ensuring a UN recognition of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders that encompasses West Bank , East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip.
In an interview with the editor, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesperson for the ruling Hamas party in the coastal territory, announced that his part is neither supportive or opponent of the move.

Islamic Jihad group in Gaza told IMEMC that the UN bid for a statehood would not help Palestinians attain their legitimate rights including the right of return for millions of refugees to territories occupied by Israel in 1948. The group warns also of what it terms further Israeli actions against the Palestinian people.

Leftist Palestinian factions within the Palestine Liberation Orgnisation agree on basis that such a declaration by the UN would guarantee Palestinian legitimate rights including the UN-issued right to return, 194.
For IMEMC.org, this is Rami Almeghari in Gaza.

The Israeli Attacks This week, the Israeli military conducted at least 51 invasions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, during which they arrested 23 Palestinian civilians, including 10 children. IMEMC’s Carmen Rodriguez reports The Israeli Attacks
:
On Sunday, two Israeli gunboats surrounded two Palestinian fishing boats, on board of which were 8 Palestinian fishermen, including two children, opposite to Beit Lahia beach in the northern Gaza Strip. Israeli naval troops opened fire at the boats wounding two fishermen lightly. Israeli naval troop then arrested the eight fishermen, but released them several hours later.

This week Israeli gunboats also fired at Palestinian fishing boats in the northern Gaza Strip, but no casualties were reported. Also this week in Gaza Israeli forces positioned at the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel opened fire at Palestinian civilian communities, but no casualties were reported.

On Saturday Israeli soldiers arrested 3 Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip who attempted to infiltrate into Israel to search for jobs. They interrogated the children and released them several hours later.

Elsewhere on Monday, Israeli settlers who forcefully occupied part of the house of Rifka Al-Kurd in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem burned the protest tent setup in the backyard of the house. The lady reported that her son noticed some noise near the house after midnight and confirmed that the settlers set the tent on fire. Neighboring youth managed to put the fire out, but all the contents of the tent where charred.

Israeli military forces demolished the house of Issa Nasser near the village of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The house is 80 square meters and was still under construction. Military bulldozers also destroyed a car parts workshop that belongs to Saber Abu Maria and bulldozed the area and destroyed the cars there. A local source said all the cars in the workshop are legal and some of them are good to use. As a result of the destruction the workshop caught fire and cause more damage to the property.

On Thursday, in the Jordan Valley village of al-Aqaba two houses and a barn were demolished by the Israeli military. Al-Aqaba village was subjected to a series of demolitions in April of this year, destroying homes and roads, and all but seven houses in the village have demolition orders outstanding. Also, demolition orders have been given to five families in the village of Khallet al-Hajjar, near Hebron, and all concern each family’s home. Popular committee coordinator in Yatta, Rateb al-Jabour, told media that all orders stated that the homes would be demolished for security reasons.

Lets examine this excellent example of the demonization of Israel...

This Week in Palestine week 37 2011
But when I post material from "This Week in Palestine" on exports, the building of malls, packed markets...

It's dismissed or ignored. While the fabricated plight at the hands of Israeli's is trumpeted on high.

Let's begin our weekly report with the nonviolent activities in the West Bank. Israeli troops attacked the anti wall protests with tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets.
No such munition. But the self proclaimed critical thinker, EAO post this piece, as if it were fact. While ignoring why the Israeli's were forced to use nonlethal force to quell a riot.

Tear gas is bad, stop rioting, you won't get bathed in it.

Which highlights the problem here in Canada.

Ignoring Palestinian oppression and injustice doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that the rest of the world isn't aware. The international community is about to vote in support of creating a Palestinian state.

I have read and re read the book "None is to many: First read it probably 25 years or so ago - It was easier for an SS Soldier to enter Canada than a Jew. Read the book - It details Canadian Policy - How Quebec lead the charge politically to refuse entry to Jews Refugees prior to 45.

let's recap. You claimed Jews had no safe haven in 1947. I disagree and posted a link showing Canada took in 40,000 Jewish refugees shortly after WW II. The same link also describes Canadian Jews as having the same rights and freedoms as other Canadians.

You tried to refute my claim that Canada was safe for Jews in 1947, by referencing Canada in the 1930's and previous. That is called moving the goal posts. If you believe that Canada is a dangerous place for Jews since 1947 you are going to have to reference events since 1947.

Your attempt to portray Canada as a dangerous place for Jews insults all tolerant and peaceful Canadians.

And nobody really gives a rat's arse.....

Because it will be vetoed.

And they may lose the REAL help they get from the USA.........

NOT from Arab states.

They can not have a real state without peace with Israel.

Which highlights the problem here in Canada.
What problem?

Ignoring Palestinian oppression and injustice doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that the rest of the world isn't aware.
Ignoring the fact that no one is saying that there isn't a problem in Palestine, doesn't mean they are saying there isn't a problem in Palestine.

The real problem is in who you place undue, unfair, imbalanced blame upon.

The international community is about to vote in support of creating a Palestinian state.
I hope they get it.

Then they'll be held to the same standard as Israel, hopefully.

Then rocket attacks, will be able to be taken as acts of war, by a country.

Do you know what that will mean EAO?

let's recap.

A country that reluctantly allows some Jews in after rejecting them when death was their other option????

Oh GIVE IT A BREAK!!!!!

What Canada was doing in the 1930's before WW II, before 1947 is beside the point. You claimed Palestine was the only safe place in the world for Jews in 1947, not the 1930's. After WW II Canada changed its immigration laws and allowed Jewish refugees to immigrate freely to Canada. In 1947, Canada was a safe and welcoming destination for Jews. So was the US and most of the rest of the world.
