If only Canada had a source for fuel that wasnt dependant on places like Saudi Arabia fixing prices… 🤔

*snicker*
If you were an oil producer would you not sell to the high priced market rather than a lower priced domestic market? You would want to maximize profits.

The oil belongs to the citizens of Canada, oil companies pay royalties for the product they extract. Therefore, we can dictate the price we pay covers their cost of production +profit until domestic needs are met. Anything else can be sold on the world market. The same should apply to all resource products.

How’re you defining a resource product? Lumber off of Crown land? Fisheries from inside Canadian territorial waters?

Do we have the refining capacity?

It's probably transportation of the oil to the refineries in the east. We should have more built in the west to cut down on transportation issues. Or a pipeline.

All wild fish and minerals. Timber off crown land belongs to all of us. Timber cut off private land does have royalties paid on it. I have no idea what the cost is now since it is a provincial thing, but when I was young we paid $3.00 for construction lumber $6.00 for #2 and $9.00 for clears in BC.

We have lost several refineries in BC for some reason that probably was bad local politics.
Nobody wants a refinery in their area. They can smell and don't look pretty. Local candidates or even provincial ones can get points by promising to run them out of town or prevent new ones from being built. Ironically the same people that support these candidates are now whining about higher gas costs (along with a lot of other people). We should figure out all the areas which closed refineries or blocked them and add another 50 cents a litre to their gas and cut some from everybody else's.
