United States President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the US is initiating plans to rebuild its relationship with Cuba following decades of disputes between nations.

“Today, the United States of America changing its relationship with the people of Cuba”

Pres. Obama said from the White House in Washington, DC Wednesday afternoon as he unveiled what he called “the most significant changes in our policy in more than 50 years.”

“We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interest,” Obama said.

EXCELLENT!

Not only will it improve relations with that country, it will do the same with others in Latin America while increasing commerce. And as shown in our experience with formerly Iron Curtain governments, it will stimulate further reform in Cuba. This should have happened a long time ago.

Too bad I gave up smoking or I would immediately buy a few Cubanitos (Cuban cigars).

This is one feather in Obama's hat fer darn sure.

Well I've never touched one, how obese?

As obese as the Canadian mean.

Canadians seem to have a bit of a complex over that sort of thing. Kinda like a little brother enjoying when the big brother gets in trouble sort of thing. Though both the big brother and the US probably would care less about what the little brother/Canada thinks about that sort of thing.

The only unifying principle Canada has is the shared aversion of most Canadians to virtually all things American.

Big Brother, ring a bell? Does Canada think?

Big Brother in the Confucian sense, not as conceived by Orwell.

You had a revolution didn't you? Yours or theirs?

Theirs. Maybe not right away. The Cuban Govt. is the Mob... and they will act like the old Mafia when that $$$$ rolls in. And the people will see the Mob in their big cars and living large and think....

"Hey... what about us?"

It's about time.

At least it'll cut down on the U.S. hypocrisy of the last 50 years of supporting vicious tin horn dictators with their dungeons and death squads in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and rest of Latin America.. while railing against human rights abuses in Cuba.

The U.S. has never had a 'Cuba' policy.. it has had a 'South Florida' policy pandering of violently anti-Castro and politically powerful Cuban expatriates.

In addition to the above I've always snickered at the American govt decrying the Cuban Communists while snuggling up to the Chinese Communist for their $2.00 a day workers............

I agree with you on that 100%, amigo. "Don't know" is probably the smartest answer to any question.

Well... I know I never did... I am not sure if you ever did... so I don't know if we ever will.

See you on the beach!

Tremendous Victory!
The Cuban 5 Are Free!

After 16 years of false imprisonment, the United States government has released the final three members of the
Cuban 5: Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino
and Antonio Guerrero.

Congratulations to the Cuban five and their families, and to the leadership of the Cuban people, Commanders of the Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz and Raul Castro Ruz and the entire Cuban people. Congratulations also to all the people and organizations in Canada and across the world who have dedicated so much time and effort to seek justice for the Cuban Five and for the Cuban people to end the criminal U.S. blockade of the island in place since 1961.

The imprisonment of the Cuban 5 for the last 16 years has been a grave injustice. They went to the United States to expose and prevent terrorism directed against Cuba from within the territory of the United States. They were anti-terrorist fighters from the beginning.

Celebrations will be held across Canada to hail this victory and also to mark the 56th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban revolution, this January 1, 2015.

Long Live Revolutionary Cuba!
