The lack of flag waving is one of the better things about Canada. Americans need to wear their patriotosm on their sleeves to convince themselves of the quality of their nation (a dubitable distinction). Canadians do not. Although, under the CPC government they increasingly need to question whether Canada is still a place to be proud of.

Tell me another funny one.

I grew up in England and a notable feature of Canada and England is that neither needs to beat its collective breat to demonstrate pride. They just are great places and the denizens know it.

You ought to meet Blackleaf.

I don't think England is boisterous as in USA, BOOMer. Where in England do you see the Anthem pl? .ayed at any sport or cultural event. Even at school games.

Where do you see flags waving on cars and houses? The British patriotism is a quiet one that parades itself when there is reason to.

So... you were saying?

Ummm... you got owned.

How? What I wrote stands. If you want to "own" me, then you will have to disprove what I wrote; not just post a few pictures of celebrations.

One of the things about national maturity is that you can know how special you are without trying to tell the world.

You still don't get it! Posting pictures of events and particular circumstances is not an argument.

The anthem is not played at College or High School events in Britain. It is not sung except on significant occasions. People do not stand with their hands on their hearts at school concerts. Flags, except for permanent displays, are not waved willy nilly.

The anthem means something there. It is not something to be murdered at every Baseball game and every Little League game.

The irony of who doesn't get what, aside. Posting unsubstantiated claims as you've done, is not an argument.

The anthem is not played at College or High School events in Britain.
Do have proof of that? Better yet. Do you have proof that it is played at every college or high school event in the US?

I already posted a video of the OXford choir singing God Save the Queen.

It is not sung except on significant occasions.
Celebrating your English pride in a pub is a special occasion?

People do not stand with their hands on their hearts at school concerts.
They do that in the States?

I know they do it in Britian...

Here's some British kids singing God Save the Queen, at a school concert. OMG! They even have their hands over there hearts!!!

I've never seen a flag waved willy nilly, anywhere.

Maybe you mean like this...

That's funny, God Save the Queen is played at all national soccer games, and the only little league games I've heard the Star Spangled Banner song at, were playoffs or major tournaments.

Never trust the government in any country to keep care of you in your old age.. if you don't prepare now.. you may have an ugly surprise at retirement time.

I own land, paid cash, building a home on it, cash.. no loans. It's mine, not the banks, just has low taxes as it a s small city.. Tired of financing big government, banks and speculators.. stopped taking loans for anything 4 years ago.. if I can't afford to pay cash.. I can't afford it. period.

Having a monthly payment outside DirecTV & Hydro is just to dam stressful for me, Thanks.

Now because I have worked in the USA and Canada.. if there is any Social Security or Old Age Pension left to get.. I will apply from one or the other, or both.

I did not trust the government, i prepared myself quite well, i had the same as you from many years of nose to the grindstone. A home on acreage paid for, no debts, then my wife was stricken with MS 8 years ago, it developed very rapidly and she could not work within a few months. A year later, after struggling for some time with back and leg problems i could no longer work either.

The next several years were a nightmare of blowing through our savings. Medical equipment and drugs are not cheap. I did not access welfare, it was not part of my makeup. Sell the life insurance and remortgage our home then try to get part time work that allowed for an old cripple who could not be away from home for more than a few hours as my wife needs close and ongoing support.

Her CPC disability is peanuts as she was home raising kids for many more years than she formally worked. I have CPC (early) and now OAP. Too much month left at the end of the money. Her family has money but they are fundamentalists and we are not so we are SOL. If what they believe in comes true they are hooped:roll:
We manage on our own so i do not not need to be told what i should have done but thanks anyway and no offense taken:smile:

And.......to stay on topic i still love Canada!

I think that you are being wilfully obtuse, Bear. I know it because I was schooled in England and NEVER saw the behaviour you claim. I know it because I went to hundreds of sporting events, and participated in many hundreds, and NEVER saw the behaviour you claim. Why do you talk of national events as a support. I have already said that those are among the few occasions that you will see it.

For obvious reason.

So I take it you're ignoring all the other examples.

Again... where is the celebration here?

So silly. I've been to many school concerts and not a one did we sing the national anthem.

The anthem means something there. It is not something to be murdered at every Baseball game and every Little League game.

Sigh... both my boys played Little League and only on opening day did they sing the national anthem.

Face it ... you've been schooled. Now you're just making it all up.
