This is a simple problem with a simple solution.
Yearly food and fuel shortages in the arctic,those of us who have had to work there and move stuff have explained it many times.You will find better food,lots of fuel and better living conditions in any remote camp compared to towns like Baker lake,Coral harbour,Iqaluit,Rankin inlet etc.I have bought $100.00 worth of toiletries and basics from the northern store,the bag will fit in your parka pocket.
Heres a solution,the govt. should ask Discovery mining to start supplying the communities.These are the big logistics experts in the north,one phone call would have things moving.
They got us 2 hercs flying 3 times a night into camp for a total of 128 loads in 2 months,these are Canadas only 2 commercial hercs.
That doesn't sound like a "simple problem", and one just needs to look at DeBeers and Attawapiskat to see that using a private company to resolve these matters isn't a fix-all solution.
Discovery mining is an expediter,not a mineing company,they supply most camps and mines in the western Arctic.
You need a bolt at kugluktuk? One call to them in YK and it will be there in 24 hours.
Outland could put a camp anywhere in the Arctic in a week and it will be nicer then most housing in the smaller hamlets.
People bitch about prices,those prices are out of this world and most up there dont make a very good wage,whats wrong with this picture?

You ever been out of the city before? There is not much in the line of veggie grows above the Arctic circle and what does has a really short season.
Seems that this would be a side effect of living in the middle of nowhere. Transportation costs are what is no doubt reflected.
