Having to pay off Sharpton and his gang of thieves, and going forward giving them a say on what movies should be or should not be made was a pretty expensive publicity stunt.
Such a stunt would cost quite a few times what the movies budget is, what would be the point? The movie was relatively low budget by Hollywood standards. It wouldnt take much to make a profit off of it. Particularly not with those involved. Even when Rogan and Franco put out sh*tty movies, they tend to turn a large profit.
How much difference would there be in a big-budget box office flop? For a flick that already has all the potential of a low-bucks dud, it sure is getting a lot of free advertising

He wants a piece of Sony's action. This wasn't simply a one check incident it would appear.

They are saving Big Time on their advertising budget. After all this publicity, I'm sure people who formerly would have given it a pass, will see it now simply out of curiosity. I know I will.
The DPRK military is a separate center of power. Chinese influence is strong in the officer corps of the Korean People's Army. Kim loathes the Chinese, but can't do without them. Kim would like to have several great powers supplying him with sustenance, but can't get the Americans to play the game and pony up. Chinese control of the resources of North Korea is pervasive. Kim doesn't like that, but what is he to do?
Well Obama did threaten them. Maybe if they pulled the plug themselves it would lesson any state hacker attack. I'm just guessing. The best articles doubt very much that NK was responsible for the Sony thing.
What dictators do best. Purge the elements they dont like whether they pose a threat or not.
Taking down the internet of another country sounds like terrorism unless there is a lawful basis, e.g., a declaration of war. Obama is just another terrorist on the same level as Kim Jong Un and Osama bin Laden. Obama should be tried before the International Court of Justice, convicted, and executed.
If he purges the officer corps of the KPA, there is a risk that Chinese airborne troops will rain on his parade.
Technically, the Korean war never ended. So there you have it.
Is there? I dont think the Chinese care enough. If they take the country they have to deal with its massive problems. Better to just ignore it.
The Armistice is still in effect. Violation of the armistice would be a transgression of international law.
The two Chinese provinces bordering the DPRK might be flooded with refugees if the status quo is altered. That would transfer massive problems from the DPRK to China.

The state of war still exists. Cease fires end all the time. I doubt the armistice says anything at all about the internet or 'cyber warfare' in general.

This is true. That sort of thing may be inevitable though. May not happen for another generation or more but eventually things will have to change in North Korea. When they do those refugees will still be an issue for China.
