Nooo! Edmonton gets first snowfall of season

Edmonton saw its first snowfall of the season late Tuesday morning.

A heavy rain turned into flakes of white stuff shortly before noon, bringing a chill to Alberta's capital region.

A light dusting of snow began accumulating, making some streets slick with sleet.

Rain mixed with snow was expected for the remainder of the day, according to the latest forecast from Environment Canada.

Between 10 to 20 millimetres of precipitation was forecast, with two centimetres of snow expected to fall in some areas of the city.

Some communities bordering Edmonton, including Nisku and Devon, were hit hard by the sudden onslaught of wintry weather.

Throngs of Edmontonians took to social media to express their feelings. And while many were sad to see the final warmth of summer evaporate, others were keen to mark the arrival of Alberta's longest season.

If the icy weather seems like it's here to stay, don't despair.

The snow should be gone by the weekend, when Environment Canada said temperatures are expected to climb to 15 C.

It's the snow that stays that is the first sign of winter. By now all the crops should be off and the mountain parks should be getting that snowfall with this same system.

It does that alright. These weathers system can cause some serious weather when it collides with the GOM air. (rather than Alberta getting the worst the system has to offer. Might help some drivers get their snow tires on before it snows this year instead of after the first heavy snow.

Northern Ontario,
Global warming.

Snow in Alberta in September has always been pretty predictable.
That's anywhere north of the 49th.....except B.C.
Here the leaves are already falling and my lawn stopped growing in August and I'll give it one last cut at the end of this month, just before I get the snow blower ready for winter.

Yeah, It's always best when the thermometers match somewhere else
:)

Did I mention the hat trick if you get the 40 mile an hour wind too?
With an assist from the direction North.

Sucks for Edmonton. We still have mid-20s celcius weather in GTA this late in September

All it means is the AC can be turned off and the grass doesn't grow as fast. No insects, no crisis. Haven't seen anybody running down the streets yelling their heads off, . . . . about the weather, there are other issues going on with people on my block.
