Maybe he and Dion could manage the party together, just a thought.
The only person they have left if he is left after today is young Trudeau
and face it he is not ready. The Liberal Party has become not only an
arrogant machine it became a dogmatic arrogant machine and it is not
being destroyed it is in all likely hood going to implode.
Next the Conservatives, they are an arrogant social conservative machine
that will likely not get anything that looks like a majority until they become
a fiscal rather than socially conservative.
The NDP if it makes the official opposition, they will be forced to give up
their last vestiges of being a movement and become a full fledged party.
If they attain power and are not careful they too will become another one
of those arrogant machines.
This is the Canadian way. The one thing I have always believed the
conservatives and the New Democrats have always had a set of principles
to follow like them or not, the Liberals on the other hand lacked the central
principles of the others and for a while it served their cause, but those days
are no more.

If I was a member of the Liberal party I would first be looking for a Canadian for a leader. One that has worked for a living and is not so far out in left field as to be irrelevant to most Canadians.

Well, DG, we do have a majority - a strong one at that. Canadians voting for the Conservatives obviously did not feel as you and saw, as did I, that our country was being run by a party that is fiscally responsible and is dedicated to moving our country forward.
I congratulate Jack on this historic election. He has a tough row to hoe now and I wish him all the best as the Official Opposition of Canada - well done Jack. I also thank him for taking the Bloc out of the Federal equation - that more than anything else gives me great hope for the future of Quebec in Canada.
Both Mr Harper and Mr Layton are being very conciliatory in their remarks today. I believe that we will see these parties well able to work together for Canada.
He's too young and inexperienced, perhaps ten years down the road. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Liberals maneuver away from their "past glories" in the coming years, they need something to sell the voters besides fading accomplishments.
From what I have been reading, talloola, the Libs have been 'grooming' Justin for a run at the leadership but that was to be in the future. Now that the party is in complete shambles, they may decide to change that schedule - however, I believe that they need to spend sometime in the 'wilderness' as did the Conservatives. Their grass-roots support is almost non-existent and their relevance on the political scene questionable at best.

Maybe with some luck Justin Trudeau will be long in the tooth by then.
