Read the debates if you are interested. It is not like the Hansard is difficult to find. Long story short, locking up criminals for longer times paradoxically increases the crime rate.

One of the biggest problems is figuring out who are "criminals" and who aren't. Is a criminal any one who breaks the law? I don't think so. With exceptions like Rafferty, Pickton, Bernardo, I don't think "warehousing" run of the mill offenders accomplishes much. For any problem I've always been in favour of the simplest remedy that will fix the problem. Find out what's "behind the crime" and in most cases I don't think it's a criminal just being himself.

There seems to be no recognition here of the fact that this Bill is the first time in that such a comprehensive piece of legislation has been introduced in Canada. Never has there been one Bill with such far reaching effects and changes to the very direction of the nation been seen.

And it is being rammed through with no possibility of consideration of most of its purposes.

This is not just a very bad money Bill that will be a jog killer and growth destroyer. It is a nation changing act. Stewardship of the resources is replaced with rape and the social consensus wiped out.

I don't think anyone is missing that fact. What you're miss though is, the present gov't, like many majorities before it, have the power to ram through legislation, and trust me, they have.

I hate to sound like I'm praising it, but this way, it's quite efficient.

And it is being rammed through with no possibility of consideration of most of its purposes.

I'd love to see you explain what parts are job killing and growth destroying.

It is a nation changing act.
Most major legislative acts are.

Stewardship of the resources is replaced with rape and the social consensus wiped out.
LOL.

If you are not missing that fact then why are you missing it. Such legislation has NEVER been seen previously. Such use of Time Allocation has NEVER been seen previously. Never in Canada and probably never in any Parliamentary democracy.

It is, accordingly, profoundly anti-democratic. Most major legislative Acts are not nation changing. They change some aspect of society. This one attacks our social programmes: our scientific and economic Institutions; the economic orientation of the country. And worse, the freedom of Canadians to engage in democratic organisations.

LOL. Yer funny.

Such legislation has NEVER been seen previously.
Really?

Such use of Time Allocation has NEVER been seen previously.
You don't say?

Never in Canada and probably never in any Parliamentary democracy.
Think again...

So in other words, you haven't even read even a synopsis of the bill.

Gotchya.

By the way, Bear, that link you gave was for something written in 2000. The fact remains that Time Allocation has NEVER been used to the extent and purpose that Harper uses it.

Ya so?

Besides the fact that you read the publishing date, did you bother to read the article?

There's a lot of facts in there that will make you uncomfortable. Which is likely why you didn't read it.

The fact remains that Time Allocation has NEVER been used to the extent and purpose that Harper uses it.
So? According to the gov't that legislated it, it is neither unethical, or illegal, or undemocratic.

Harper has used Section 75C to push through legislation 8 times.

Chretien used it a total of 49 times, in two terms, Mulroney same, in one term.

Whether he lumps it together, or breaks it down, it's all the same. The media and the Opposition is making this into a spectacle and the Usual Suspects and bobbleheads suck it up like so much pap.

I read the synopsis of Bill C-38 the other day. Lots of legislation I disagree with fundamentally, but can understand realistically. Lots of legislation I completely dislike. But nothing in there is anything like the nonsense you've been trying to peddle. Like denying Canadians freedom.

Let's take a quick walk back through that nonsense...

Not only has nothing like it been seen in Parliament previously, nothing like it has ever been seen in any Parliamentary democracy...
BS.

- though Canada is no longer a democracy.
No more or less so than with any other majority gov't.

This adds to the prorogations that also were the first of their kind anywhere.
What utter BS. Harper still hasn't prorogued as many sessions as previous gov'ts.

It adds the contempt of Parliament findings.
Which in and of themselves, were based on the Opposition doing something no previous Opposition would even think of doing, demanding documents pertaining to an ongoing combat mission.

It adds to the use of Ti,e Allocation and closure by Harper: devices that also have never been used with the frequency and purpose of this increasingly Fascist administration.
What a load of sh!t. Harper has used Section 75C 8 times.

There seems to be no recognition here of the fact that this Bill is the first time in that such a comprehensive piece of legislation has been introduced in Canada.
You mean we never introduced the Charter?

Never has there been one Bill with such far reaching effects and changes to the very direction of the nation been seen.
NEP nad NAFTA come immediately to mind, without any real research.

Such legislation has NEVER been seen previously.
Again BS.

Such use of Time Allocation has NEVER been seen previously.
You simply dismissed the article I posted that proves that to be a lie.

Never in Canada and probably never in any Parliamentary democracy.
I proved that to be a lie.

It is, accordingly, profoundly anti-democratic.
The Liberals that enacted it, and used it, didn't think so.

Most major legislative Acts are not nation changing.
Accept for ones like NEP NAFTA and the Charter.

And worse, the freedom of Canadians to engage in democratic organisations.
And that there is the biggest load of manure you've posted thus far.

Are you implying that Bill C-38 is medicinal?

I've said in the past that the Liberals are like that cool Aunt that comes around at Christmas and plies the kids with sugary treats, big gifts and lots of love.

Then the Conservatives, just like mom, have to come along and administer the medicine needed to sooth the sickness that cool Aunt caused.

The Conservatives are like Buckley's, taste like crap but it works.

If enough people don't like it in about 3 years you can change the government. Or at least try to. Might just find that the majority don't agree with you.

Depends.... Are you a spoiled brat and control freak? Do you care what happens beyond your circle?

NOPE. I work for a living and support freedom. Just can't stand freeloaders. Personal or corporate.
