If you want to have a beer with Jack Layton, bring a full wallet. The only beer you - and Jack - will drink is the beer you pay for.

I say with the sudden spike in Jack's popularity, most aren't listening to you Y.J. - you might have to shout a little louder. Monday will tell the story. 50 seats for Jack.

There is no middle class anymore thanks to Harpo's policies, you are either well off, working poor, or just plain old poor and destitute.

The well off are called government employees. The rest of us survive on what the market will bare.
If the dippers get into power any manufacturer that can will leave Canada, taking jobs with them. All that will be left is what few resource jobs that are deamed PC and legions of government employees driving up the debt.

JLM, I lived through the horror of Bob Rea's NDP reign in Ontario a few years back.

Compared to Jack Layton, Bob Rea is a raging capitalist. Who, by the way, never had the audacity to preach about rich taking advantage of the poor, while, at the same time lived, with his equally despicable free-loading wife, in a publicly funded housing project.

Also, Bob Rea can play the piano better than Jack.

JLM, I was trying to alert people about NDP agenda, regardless who the leader is, regardless if it is provincial or federal.

I thought even you could understand that.

Have another cup of coffee.

I understand your thoughts about the N.D.P. and there's aspects of them, I'm leary about same as you. My biggest fear with N.D.P. is the hard nosed Union segment who (from my personal experience) I've found don't believe in democracy and in rare cases have even resorted to downright thuggery ala Kitimat B.C. about 40 years ago. On the other hand I think a sensible lead could run a successful N.D.P. government as long as he doesn't forget that money has to come from somewhere. Basically there are only two ways to generate money.............you either have to kill something or mine something.............all other endeavours just spread money around.

The funny thing is, the only people using the words 'commie' or 'socialist', consistently, aren't Conservatives. It's the same crowd that uses words like Nazi, media controlling, et al.

My biggest fear is that sometimes if the NDP were asked to form a firing squad they would
form a circle and shoot inward. On the other hand the diverse camp in the NDP is good for
democracy and keeps the debate alive within the group itself. Yes the NDP has some very
strange people, but it is no worse than the strange people in the Liberals like Ms Fry with
the burning crosses on the lawns in Prince George episode of a few years ago.
Then of course there is a lot of strange people in the Conservative Party like the one time
member from Calgary East that wanted Canada to start caning people or Collin Mays from
the north Shuswap area that believes the world is six thousand years old and science be
damned, the heart of the praise the lord crowd.
This is actually alright with me. We need various voices and in the midst of serious business
every party should contribute equally to comic relief. As for being afraid of the NDP for some
sinister plot they might have is nonsense. They are no more good or evil than anyone else.
Every country has changes of government and policy changes that sometimes work and
sometimes don't and this might be a good time to elect the NDP or close to it to see just how
capable they are. After nearly a hundred and fifty years of government mismanagement by
the other two parties, we need a change, to find out what someone else can do.
We whine about the Liberals and we whine about the Conservatives but we interchange them
like we only have two sets of underwear, its time we bought an orange pair to see how they
fit.

I'm sure there's tons of dirt conservatives have been desperate to dig up on Layton. Most of it will come from the compromised sun (not surprisingly).

Regarding the economic policies of this particular NDP platform, I'd have to agree with this article. A lot of the concurrent issues that relate to Canadians on our fiscal policy don't seem to be under any particular threat. Certainly not to the extent the conservative fear mongers would have us believe.

No one is saying we should favour one party or the other on principal alone. That would be partisan, and that's what appears to keep fueling the conservative vote, despite the fact that conservatives aren't actually fiscally conservative right now.

But it would be nice to get some legitimate arguments that are truly critical of the NDP budget, without someone mindlessly flinging the poo around.

$ 70 billion over four years in new spending funded largely through Jack's fertile imagination and not much else.

That does not require much argument....it means sharply raised taxes, or increased defecit, or both......

In an economy damaged by cap and trade and higher corporate taxes.

Me thinks Jack has been unrealistic, never expecting to get elected........or he has been dipping into the Faerie Dust a little too deep.

Oh, and these policies are now supported by people who two days ago were foaming at the mouth over the idea of $ 30 billion over 20 years for new jets........

Me thinks the Faerie Dust has gotten way too popular.

"Menance" is a little strong, Jack is simply an idiot.

Unfortunately, having an idiot in power quite often proves more damaging than having someone with menance, say Jean Chretien.

Good article.

More fear mongering....it's funny how douche bags on the right use to cry about accusations of lil Steves hidden agenda and go on about the NDP's agenda.

Where is your smug indignation now bitches......

.

30 billion.....can you prove that?

The numbers seem to jump all over the place.

In an economy damaged by cap and trade and higher corporate taxes.

That's funny, weren't you just going on about how you didn't support a corporate tax cut?

What happens to the economy when the dollar goes up under a Harper majority?

Jack wants to give job creators tax cuts, not mega corps.

The $70 billion smear on the NDP has already been dismantled as they're projecting $1 Billion surplus by the end of 2015. In fact Pembina already admitted that that was a pretty conservative estimate based on their budget and that we should expect a higher surplus unless we have to pay for a war.

Meanwhile, we're definitely heading further into deficit with un-conservative spending that the conservatives are doing. So the fiscal side of this has already been briskly taken care of. All that's left are smears on Jack's character and most of those are (unsurprisingly) coming from Alberta talk shows and The Sun.

So, it's pretty much a done deal. There's no way in hell the NDP will become minority, but they have plenty of time to continue building momentum after this election, so I wouldn't worry too much about conservatives anymore.

No no no no....the CBC say it's not costed correctly, nor does the national post.....so it can't be right.

The difference is, if you would open your eyes, I am not going on about Layton's agenda, I am talking about his declared policies.

BIG difference.

30 billion? No I can't, but even double it to 60 billion over 20 years, and it is stills a heck of a lot less than 70 billion over 4 years.

I said I did not support a corporate tax cut. Nor do I support raising corporate taxes.
