English for the Mentally Challenged:

If I say "Obviously you have never been in a house where the living room is green" that means you have never been in a house with a green living room.

It most emphatically does NOT mean EVERY house has a green living room.

So, when I said "Obviously you have never been in a Muslim country.....where Jews are persecuted (etc)......"

But, if you had written "Obviously you have never been in a house...where the living room is green", it would mean that all houses have green living rooms, and you have obviously never been in one.

So many hair-splitters on the interweb eh. Sheesh. Armchair lawyers and copywriters, nitpickers and cotton pickers. It's what makes the tubes go 'round I suppose.

It's funny, but when the medium is written English, people tend to interpret what is written based on the rules of written English.

If you mean something other than what you've written, you shouldn't be surprised when people don't follow.

All this would make a good example for JLM's bastardization of the English language.

People do read into a sentence what their bias wants to see.....

And make statements with their bias...cuts both ways.

What segregation? Where is the indication they don't want to be Canadians? They pay taxes, come to our schools, work hard and help out economy grow.
That's absolute bull**** that only two Muslim countries are moderately safe to live in "if you're white". There are obviously several more countries that must have slipped your mind.

Name them if they exist. I'd be interested to hear it.

And your comment about helping the economoy is ridiculous. one immigrant comes ot Canada. He/she then is used to bring hoards of relatives into the country that drain our social programs. immigration hasn't done a single positive thing for our country in the last 30 years. That's a fact.

Huh? He started a thread about the bastardization of English. There's similarities...
http://forums.canadiancontent.net/arts-entertainment/102841-english-language-being-bastardized.html

When someone tells me I have reading comprehension problems, but they can't understand that they aren't even following the rules of our language, I find it very amusing.

Firstly - Colpy did not make an error as a few seem to think

2nd - we do not all have the ability to write as well as you

3rd - People make mistakes - We are human - We make mistakes -Some people are to ffn stubborn to apologize - That is a weakness in my opinion

4th - You I believe were slamming Colpy not for the post that has generated so much commentary but for his basic opinion. Jumped to soon is my opinion.

5th - We do not need the grammar police - We had that with SJP. No offense towards you is intended in this post

Northern Ontario,
Agreed. Colpy has apologized so let's move on.
