Of course this was a "political" move, any nomination would have been political in nature, your cynicism is not misplaced.....

But this appears to be a very worthy woman, an wise choice by McCain, a signal that McCain, not Obama, is the true candidate capable of thinking outside the box.......

I see their plan is working on you.

Colpy: Thanks for the link to that article. it was both amusing and made some great points.

Of course McCain's choice was dictated by politics. the man wants to win. It's the big prize.

Obama though, may very well have let his ego get in the way.

After thinking about this vp appointment a little longer, I think it is 'just' an attention
getting decision, as the dems are getting so much attention lately, and after that huge
convention, they have to find a way to switch the focus to 'them', this should do it,
doesn't matter if it is negative or positive, it is still attention coming their way, that's
all that matters.
I don't know anything about this lady, but there is sure lots of comments coming their
way now, some good, some bad, but they now have the spotlight on them.

Ego is an issue? Let me know when the combined egos of both candidates are halfway to the level of shrub.

"McCain is a man of principle........imagine!"

Yeah, that's why he is known as king of flip flops.

"she's a quick learner"

How partisan of you! What a lame excuse for her lack of experience.

Colpy, you'll never convince me you are not a Republican.

I agree with gopher..that was lame Colpy--seriously.
"she's a quick learner."
Did you get that from her moose killing skills? (Hmmm..killing moosee)

McCain a man of principle? Sure, a war hero and a patriot..of course, he is a man of principle. But at what cost? Do his conservative/liberal *cough* principles really matter in the brink of financial collapse? Energy crisis? Do you honestly think his plan for off-shore drilling is going to drop price for the barrel of oil?
Its time to move on..stop wasting time and get to the real issues.
As such, enough. Enough with fundamentals and time for change, enough with this foolish war and stop agitating Arabs to hate us, enough with the conservative talk! Crisis are at hand and we need someone who at least speaks of change. Thus, I will take the risk...and have faith in Obama because at last, someone with Harvard degree..awesomeee.

EDIT:
Palin's sexy...no doubt about that.
Really appealing..but not convincing.

Heh,finally someone with a Harvard degree, awesome. That is funny....Obama says he wants to decrease the dependency on foreign oil,but he doesn't want off-shore drilling or drilling in Alaska. He is a fool that talks like our Dion. Totally out of touch with reality....Curiousity,good to see you again...I don't know if has been linked to yet on this thread, but if you google 'Biden Beaver Obama'you should be directed to a youtube that is hilarious. Obama's pick may be older and more experienced but it appears that he can't hold his liquor. Thanks for the Steyn link Colby,Mark Steyn rocks, but he has said that he will probably never visit Canada again because of the HRC's,our loss.

One more thing. YoungKim,it is not the Arabs that hate us,it is the followers of islam. And they do not need a reason to hate us,their religion tells them to hate all who do not believe in their prophet.

,hope that works. You can almost feel the Obamas cringing while Joe sixpack speaks. I like when he says"She's my wife, well actually I'm her husband",yeah Joe we know you don't possess her,but what is possessing you?

That's funny.
I'm guessing he still has kool-aids from the convention running in his vein.
Anyways, yes, embarassing and laughing at the same time lol.

Now, for serious issues..
hat is funny....Obama says he wants to decrease the dependency on foreign oil,but he doesn't want off-shore drilling or drilling in Alaska.
Good argument...however, I'd like to rip that apart.
First of all, off-shore drilling or drilling in ANWAR will NOT and I repeat, WILL NOT budge the cost per gallon or litre. Even if it DOES budge and somehow miraculously the gas price comes down to the point where we left off a year ago, it is inevitable...that we will reach back to a point where we are at now.
The reason is simple: Supply & Demand. When you increase the number of supply and the demand stays relatively the same, price of gas eventually decreases. Good thing right? It makes sense for so many people that if we drill our shores and even ANWAR, the price of oil will go down. Yay? No. Not really.
Oil market don't work like that. It bases its statistic and the value per a barrel based on the world market. So, if we manage to increase the supply and thus lowering the price of gas, we will still be in jeopardy due to increasing demand of oil in the world market. In the end, we will be back to where we started all over again and the rest is history.
Conclusively, it seems to me that off-shore drilling/ANWAR is a money grab for oil company and the benefit is not for middle class Americans/Canadians, its for the corporate interest. Plus..it takes couple years to set up those off-shore drilling for full production capacity anyways.

Thus, I can only say that McCain's energy policy is dumb. The same old conservative tactics to somehow satisfy for a while than the problem later. Awesome.
McCain might have rejected Bush's assurance of Americans by telling them to shop, shop, shop after September 11 and deregulated housing market all which has led to a preventable economic bubble. However, his proposal is exactly the same as Bush's short-term based policy--act now, think later.

I went to wikipedia to see what info is reported there about Sarah Palin. I don't know if any of this is true. I haven't cross referenced any of it. If it is, or there is some truth to them, I'm sure she will be challenged on some of them.

* She has a history of both lowering and raising taxes.
* She has supported a higher tax on oil company profits. (what Obama proposes and Republican spin has critisized)
* She has supported giving Alaskans some of the profit taxes (what Obama proposes)
* Proposed providing government grants to utility companies to lower customer rates (isn't that socialist?)
* She cancelled the 'Bridge to Nowhere" plan after the Feds (Congress) didn't fund most of what they needed for the project. (different story from what news sound bites have made it out to be)

"Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport, but the $398 million bridge is not the answer. Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it’s clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public’s attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened."

* Palin is currently being investigated by an independent investigator to determine whether she abused her power when she fired Monegan. The investigation is scheduled to end October 30, only days before the November 4 presidential election.

............

Her short history will debated and spun by the opposition in the campaign. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

One more thing. YoungKim,it is not the Arabs that hate us,it is the followers of islam. And they do not need a reason to hate us,their religion tells them to hate all who do not believe in their prophet.

"eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth."
Literally, do on to others that do on to you.
If we act solely on this, the world would be dead--long gone. Fortunately, the world has found a common ground and such destructive scripture is abandoned.

And I agree with you wallyj. I give you my nod on where Islam bases its faith around. Nonetheless, I hope you would look more in-dept to the issue of extremism in Middle East. Many of the extremists are documented to be suffering from extreme poverty. Imagine a child without a proper housing, education, food, water, healthcare, and family. The rich wouldn't come to save them. The government wouldn't come to save them. The Westerners wouldn't come to save them. But wal-la! Here comes Hezbollah! They come in, providing food, shelter, water, and all the basic need. So who do you think these people support? You or Hezbollah?
Plus the education Hezbollah offers..I'm sure you would become a terrorist if you were in the situation the child is in as I described.

Not only that, the Islam and the West seem to lack communication. Wars such as War on Iraq and Afghanistan will only fuel the fire we already ignited by cutting the ties with Muslims. What we need is constant communication instead of resorting to occuping Islam countries. Thankfully, Obama is willing to take that road gladly.

Palin seems to be a delightful woman. I mean...she's sexy..and her faith to her belief is remarkable. Her anti-abortion, lowering taxes for the middle class, and raising taxes for the coporates are really what I want. Then again, she isn't running for the president--its McCain and I know what I DON'T like...

Thanks Wallyj

Glad to be welcomed - my stomach can't take much more newsy television and the U.S. threads are worse - I've been trying to study for my vote but have reached a brick wall
of breakdown. Nothing seems to make sense any more so I thought I would hang with
some sensible people for a while .... and as you see I'm reduced to putting up jokes and U-tubes haha...

I'll Google the Biden Beaver Obama you suggested - welcome the distraction! Curio

I hope McInsane and that nasty woman win. I think they'll make a better asset consolodation team for the elite and thereby provoke the necessary and predicted American Revolution, (the second chapter). The clued in Americans (the good ones) will defeat the clueless Americans (the bad ones) in an epic struggle that will completely destroy the United States. When they have exhausted themselves my Legions (Dark Legions of the DarkBeaver) will sweep into the vacuum and damn all the streams and rivers flooding the entire country making the biggest beaver pond ever constructed which will fill with trout and ducks which the winning Americans will work for.
Later that afternoon I will personally begin empregnating much of the flower of American womanhood with the seed of the worlds largest and smartest and handsomest mutant beaver. Monumental monuments in my likeness will no doubt spontaneiously be erected by the jubilant trout pond workers.

It's fiction people, and no more likely to happen than the election of a savior for the American people. I'm afraid the hostilitys are a very real part of the near future, and here's the rub the elite will make money.

I'm sure you have finally found the answer for all of us north americans, but I do need
another minute or so to completely absorb this, just can't decide if I want to be a
trout or a duck.;-)A flower of america would be fun, but I've had four children, 'enough allready.'
