Yeah.
Look what the Internet has created.
How many deaths have cell phones indirectly caused?
Yeah.
Look what the Internet has created.
The excuse they gave was privacy... but then they enacted C-51, so privacy is not actually a concern. What other reason could there be to getting rid of it?

Mandatory long-form census restored by new Liberal government
The Liberal government is reinstating the mandatory long-form census that was scrapped by the Conservatives five years ago.
"We need good, reliable data," said Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains, who made the announcement on Parliament Hill.
Bains could not say what the penalty would be for refusing to fill out the compulsory questionnaire, but said there will be a "robust" communication plan. The vast majority of Canadians understand the importance of this data and want to participate in the process, he said, noting that 93.5 per cent of the population filled out the forms last time.
The data is invaluable for everyone from city planners and provincial governments to businesses and non-government organizations, Bains said.
Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Jean-Yves Duclo said Canadians are happy to fill out the long form because they understand it is critical to the well-being of the country.
Restoring the long-form census was was one of the planks in the Liberal Party's platform during the recent federal election.

Sounds good , but every time I hear of a school being shut down because of demographics I also hear a lot of teeth knashing and crocodile tears from every affected interest group .I'm not sure either but I don't think anyone can dispute that it would definitely reduce waste by spacing out resources where they are most needed and thinning them out where the need is sparser. One example would be planning for class rooms in the future or providing long term beds for disabled seniors in the future. I think there is a simple solution in that the information can be collected w/o having to have the person's name attached, just the postal code. I doubt if there is any system that is going to catch everyone.

The long-form census is back – with penalties still possible if you ignore it
"Some Canadians have previously refused to fill out the census, but no one has ever been jailed for the offence. The overall response rate for the mandatory long-form census was 94 per cent in 2006."
I won't fill it out. Period.

Justin Trudeau: "We want to know as much as we can about your bedroom, as well as the other rooms in your house."
I would question the wisdom of that. There's probably a dozen other ways of getting the information but they are all more costly. So why not just take 10 minutes of your precious time and give them what they want? It's not like they are after personal information, just things like how many at what location requiring what resources. Do you check for the boogey man under your bed every night?
Do they need to know your income, your ethnicity, your religion etc. etc. for that, or just the number of people in towns, provinces or territory?Long form census only makes perfect sense and those who think otherwise should smarten up. It's instrumental in cash transfers to the provinces and municipalities. Need I say more?
"The advantage with the census is that not only does it [make] national provincial-level information, you can also drill down to the community level," said Wilf Falk.
On Thursday, the new Liberal government officially tossed out the national household survey the Conservatives brought in — a move Falk said is critical for decision makers.
He said the household survey didn't produce accurate data.
"Because of the overall lower response rate, what we ended up with was communities with no data published for them at all," Falk said.
"If you look at it like a data map, it looks like Swiss cheese with holes all over the place."

Why should I do that for business, not only for free but paid for by my tax dollars to the government? At least for companies like Loblaw or Independent, I get something for filling out and allow them to scan my PC+ card....
It may not be much, but it's something.
Now, If they offered me some remuneration for filling out their damn census I would think about it instead they say it's against the law if I don't....
BTW at ikea or walmart or other store I rarely give my postal code....it all depends how I'm asked....
