I will bring my bouzouki and we can dance, drink and be Greek for a day.

Sorry Ron I never thought that this topic would cause such a problem.

Thank you Ron, respecting the rules is a good thing, my next thread is about Greek Phobia and the cause.

Good evening, Socrates. I guess this thread was sort of destined to go to hell, and I say that with the greatest of respect. I just re-read your opening post, and it was a bit...uh, well, could I say "thought provoking?" For example, a couple of the lines were:
"The Conservatives in Ottawa suck big time, they are the laughing stock of the world….

A bunch of demented thugs,"

...and that might have set the tone, so to speak.

But as a fellow poster, I understand where you're coming from and I enjoy a good debate on the subject, of course, but it looked like it might become a bit of a bloodbath sooner or later. I guess it's easy to forget the rules in the "heat of the battle" and make some mistakes.

I agree though...it may be difficult, but the rules should be followed. Being somewhat human, I'm just as prone to getting a bit "heated" now and again, so I know what a challenge it is to keep it on the straight and narrow.

I'm wondering if (to make the mods' lives easier) if it would be permissible to establish a sort of "no holds barred" thread where people could let it all hang out, insult each other, swear, curse, and carry on...and just keep it going? That way, anyone in a foul mood could go there and vent.

I don't know if that's a "kosher" idea or if it would help the cause. Like many things, it "looks good on paper"...

You know CB in all fairness as I said before, I don’t hate people in general, I made a good living in the past because I embraced the principals of respecting the opposite side. I get edgy only, when I feel a hand going in my back pocket pretending it is a friend (carrot on the stick) and ends up being my worst night mare.

To give you an idea, I never have a problem with a guy like Danny Williams for example who is Conservative, shoots from the hip and looks after his people like he has done in Newfoundland. In fact if he became the PM I may be tempted to vote for the guy if the Liberals don’t get it together soon enough.

Discussion of politics has the tendency to produce bad tempers (I'm as bad as anyone) and hard hard feelings and it really is sad as politicians are about the only bunch of thugs who have that ability. I guess what is sad is that some people get "owned" by these miscreants, when over the long haul none of them are too noble.

The politicians sure as hell don't set much of an example of sterling behaviour in Question Period. Mind you, I'm not sure if they started it or they are just trying to satisfy the blood lusts of some of the electorate.

What came first, the chicken or the egg? Or, to put it in more rural terms - "What came first, the sh!t or the shovel?"

I've popped CountryBoy a PM describing Wreck Beach. Still rules there,
but not as tight....

Thanks for that info, Ron. I did check it out (and the old steel cage) and read the rules. I note the following one:

2. This is not the flame forum... this is a place for us all to relax and enjoy... personal attacks will not be tolerated.

...which I guess sort of rules out the "free for all" that I had in mind as a possible place for some to seriously vent.

Oh well, it was just a thought. Thanks again.

I suppose if I was being paid the money they are, I'd be under the impression I was too important to have to concern myself with manners.

...I understand it was hard to keep clean. ;-)

True.... We had a certain few who used it for fight club and forgot all the bonds of decency. It was a great place to corral a troublemaker and get him/her out of the mainstream though. In the end, fighting fire with fire didn't always work out for the best.
