To a lot of men it was one of their top possessions rating up there with their wife and their truck. Guns are only dangerous in the hands of criminals and those who are ignorant of their use and how to handle them.

So, wife is a possession, like gun or the truck? Is that typical western thinking? I have a gun, I have a truck, I may as well get me a little woman and complete my collection.

Liberal phobia and the cause….

The West (as I recall). A few days ago I posted a comparison of crime in Ontario and Alberta. Crime rate in Alberta was much higher in almost every category. Murder, rape assault, the whole thing.

Crimes committed with Guns. That's what I asked about. Are "Gun" Crimes higher
in Western Canada than Easter Canada, to support your claims? That's what I
asked.

I'd sure like to see statistics proving crime is higher in the west (say west of Thunder Bay) - I very much doubt there is much difference. What percentage of crime involves guns? 2%, 3% at the most 5%.? Your imagining things are so doesn't MAKE them so, S.J. When I said "statistics" I meant reliable "statistics" not "statistics" that are "conveniently" found to support the premise. LOL

Such statistics are very easy to find, JLM.

Saskatoon has highest crime rates in Canada

As I said before, my son was concerned about getting matched to Saskatoon or Winnipeg, due to high crime rate there. He would have gone there if he had been matched there, but that was not his top choice.

I have given link where they list crimes by province in my previous post. Unfortunately, there is no specific category of crimes committed with gun. However, there is murder rate, robbery and rate of violent crimes. All are higher in the West. Now, while this does not constitute absolute proof ( one could commit violent crime without a gun), the implication is clear.

There is a lot more to it than just crime figures and gun figures. YOu have to look at the entire demographics, rural vs. urban, young vs. old, white collar vs. blue collar, high income vs. low income. Like I've said in another post on a different subject when factors "A" through "Z" contribute to a situation you can't just conclude that "A" is the problem because it occurs in both situations. Some posters here don't understand that simple concept.....................:lol::lol:

Here is the violent crime rate in Canada at a glance, Ron.

< 800 per 100,000
801-1000 per 100,000
1001-1500 per 100,000
1501-2000 per 100,000
2001-3000 per 100,000
3001-5000 per 100,000
> 5000 per 100,000

I don't know why the colored squares don't appear here. They appear on the clipboard, but when I submit the post, they disappear due to some reason.

Anyway, the lighest reagion is <800, the darkest region >5000, per 100,000

The implication is not clear to me, and anyone West of you I'd assume.
You're painting the picture. Skirt around it if you have to, but...

Here's a recap....just to be clear with respect to your claim,
and my question with respect to it.

If your push is to justify Gun Control....are "Gun Crimes" higher
in Western Canada than they are in Eastern Canada, to correlate
with your claim of Higher Crime rates & higher Gun Ownership being
somehow related to each other in Wester Canada compared to Eastern
Canada?

Even in Canada, I think gun ownership is much higher in the West, and crime is also much higher in the West, compared to Ontario and Quebec. Coquitlam is the murder capital of Canada (or at least it used to be, I don't know which is the murder capital now, but you may be sure it is in the west).

Hmmm....how 'bout Crimes committed with Guns. Who's higher? The East or the West?

The West (as I recall). A few days ago I posted a comparison of crime in Ontario and Alberta. Crime rate in Alberta was much higher in almost every category. Murder, rape assault, the whole thing.

I'll throw you a bone. The weapon of choice out here is the Knife. They're
cheap. You can buy a 5 pack of steak knives for two bucks...and they'll kill
someone as well as a hammer to the head, and are easily concealable, &
disposable.

OK Ron, here is the statistics on gun crime in Canada. In the top five cities, three are in the West, the first two are in the West. Or look at it another way, there are six cities with higher than average gun violence, four of them are in the West. Now I don't know about you, but at least in my mind, this proves my point.

What you say may be partially true, no doubt some crimes involved knife. However, there was plenty of gun related violence in the West, more so than in the East.

I have already made my point, JLM. I have provided statistics to show that the rate of murder, rate of robbery, rate of violent crime and the rate of gun related crime is higher in the West, and in my opinion that is related at least partially to the fact that gun ownership is higher in the West.

So in my opinion, I have proved my point, believe it or not as you will.

Could someone please inform SJP that the highest per capita ownership of firearms in a Canadian province is in....(wait for it).....NEWFOUNDLAND....

Now, unless I'm seriously lost, Newfoundland is NOT west.

I think there is a good possibility that what you have proved is that people in the east are just sneakier.

Actually, you have a valid point. Do all the the "family members" (mafia) in Montreal and Toronto register their guns? I don't think all those handguns and machine pistols show up in the stats, do they?

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Yep, just another indication of what a joke many statistics are.

Take the city of New Orleans 20 years ago when the police force was the most corrupt in the country and half the murders there were committed by the cops- how much of what went on there ever made it to the statistics reports? Mark Twain pretty well hit the nail on the head when he said "there are lies, damned lies and statistics"
