Liberal Elite - Will none of you rid of us of this embarrassment to the Country

Here in BC we had a vote to change our system to proportional rep, Goob. The thing was that it was so hard to get one's head around exactly how the system worked. I read all the material they sent out, I attended two meetings where it was explained, and still I came away wondering just what I was voting for. I was not alone in this as talking to my friends they also had trouble.

Sometimes, I think that a benign dictator might be the ticket. :lol: ;-)

I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure it out as well. Got fairly complicated. Most people could not figure out who exactly would represent their area which perhaps was the intent. Many also felt that 5% was too low a bar to get a representative. Anyway I'm sure that a simpler fair system that still kept the nutbars from either end of the political spectrum out could be established. I think we could have kept the local rep voting the same and added a few seats to parliament that would have been at large based on the party's percentage of popular vote.

As a former neighbour of mine once said: If you don't like the present political system or the people who run for office, vote for those who have absolutely no chance of winning.

If enough people did that we could be waking up to a better world after election day.

Well having been around a farm or 2 bull **** has an odor as well - I am sure Mikey can taste it. He sure seems to try and feed it to us a lot - I understood from the commercial that Mikey was supposed to eat it?

I confess though, I did that mostly because I'm a **** disturber, and my son is borrowing my car (his is broken down) to travel to his in-laws.......Liberals all. In fact, her grandmother had a framed picture of Jean Chretien hanging in the house......without bullet holes.

I think people don't even know how the present system works in detail so I can't really see any reason they would need to know exactly how the newer system would work. lol Personally, I think the biggest factor behind the 41% of the voters not accepting STV was fear of change.

lol I heard on the news that Iggy wants to get close to the people and bond with us. Glibs are named "Glibs" for a reason; they glibly know what to say to tug at people's emotions. It wasn't a PR system. I can explain PR to my elderly Grandmother within five minutes and she'll understand it perfectly and be in support of it.

STV isn't PR and is a worse system in my opinion. STV doesn't do a thing to combat big tent institutions which in BC (B.C. Liberals and NDP) are a huge problem.

People would just cast their first vote for Social Credit (which then it loses) and than place their second vote for B.C. Liberals just to keep the NDP out of power. Effectively what does it change except cost the election more money? Nothing!


If you want to break up the big tent parties in Western Canada than I'll recommend a mixed PR system with a 5% threshold.

But then I don't see anything in British Columbia hinting at electoral reform... We can only pray the HST fiasco leads to it. But ultimately, I don't think people care about democracy as long as hockey and cheap watered down Molson is available at the beer store.
