The Queen is the citizen of 16 realms. She's Canadian approximately 23 days a year. I think that was in February this year.
Dual citizenship is an asset.

Twenty three days is enough time to sail the Royal Tax Barge to and from the Canadian treasury to fetch the Royal Cut.

Thomas Mulcair is the NDP

Interesting piece.....very pro-Mulcair.

I especially liked this little bit of argument:
More interesting still, Mr. Castonguay’s profile of Mr. Mulcair reveals a politician, nicknamed “the grizzly,” who by virtue of intellect, force of personality and simple bloody-mindedness, came to be feared by his political opponents. “From the very beginning he was a pitiless warrior,” veteran Quebec Liberal politician Pierre Paradis told Mr. Castonguay.
That just wouldn’t do, in opposition to Stephen Harper, now would it? Better to put someone more timorous up against the most effective and ruthless Conservative leader Canadians have seen, possibly, since Sir John A. Macdonald. Perhaps NDP supporters can then watch, in horrified fascination, as Mr. Harper feeds their new leader through the wood-chipper. Brian Topp, Peggy Nash and Paul Dewar can be described as many things. Pitiless warrior is not among them

(my emphasis)

ROTFLMAO.

lol

There's no doubt in my mind that if Rae and Mulcair are the official opposition leaders, Harper is going to get pretty reamed during question period.

Rae's already been doing a commendable job, and Mulcair is a step above him in terms of charisma and logical fortitude.

Many people might care. If it's a non-issue, then why hide it?

Preferring Indian curry over Italian pasta is a non-issue too, but an absence of a candidate's cullinary references does not indicate an intention to hide it. If a candidate included all non-issues on his website, it would be an encyclopetic-sized autobiography.

I think that Muclair's dual citizenship status will have an impact on some voters. In fact, I believe that it will be many voters will take notice.

Many would notice his skin colour too. So?

Culinary preferences are not incumbent in assessing the suitability of a nation's leader... Their citizenship is.

Why is this so hard for you?

I agree. If he were not a Canadian citizen, he couldn't run as an MP. We can therefore take it as a given that if he's an MP, he's also a Canadian citizen.

Great, so if Kim Jong Un decided to apply for Canadian citizenship, you'd encourage him to run for PM?

First off, I don't know much about him. But no, if I wouldn't judge him based on citizenship but on his own character.

For example, I'd not vote for bashar Al-Assad. The difference though is that you would not do so based on his citizenship, I wouldn't owing to the attrocities he'd committed.

Suit yourself Machjo.

In the end, you are in the minority on this - thankfully.

While I agree with your comment, this sentiment is so mindnumbingly obvious that it just goes to show how retarded it is to judge someone based on their citizenship status.

If bitching was what gives you a majority the NDP would have been in charge a long long time ago:lol:

It should be a shock to you then to know that the biggest bitches in question period are the ones with the majority. :)

Yes, thankfully, those with critical skills beyond that of a beaver are in the minority.
