William Stevenson, the ex-husband of former first lady Jill Biden, has been charged with murder in the death of his wife Linda Stevenson.
Stevenson, 77, faces first-degree murder charges over the death of his wife Linda, 64, following a weeks-long investigation, New Castle County Police in Delaware said on Monday. He is being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $500,000 bail, police said. It’s not yet clear if he has legal representation.
Last Dec. 28, police responded to a domestic dispute report at the Stevenson home in Oak Hill, Del., where they found Linda Stevenson unresponsive, officials said. Attempts to save her life failed, police said, adding that they were doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Jill Biden was married to Stevenson, a football player in his college days and current owner of the Stone Balloon bar near the University of Delaware, from 1970 to 1975. Jill Biden met then Sen. Joe Biden in 1975. The pair were married two years later. Biden would go on to become the 46th president of the United States
