Biden again tests positive for COVID-19, returns to isolation

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again Saturday, slightly more than three days after he was cleared to exit coronavirus isolation, the White House said, in a rare case of “rebound” following treatment with an anti-viral drug.

White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a letter that Biden “has experienced no reemergence of symptoms, and continues to feel quite well.”

In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Biden will reenter isolation for least five days. The agency says most rebound cases remain mild and that severe disease during that period has not been reported.

Word of Biden’s positive test came just two hours after the White House announced a presidential visit to Michigan this coming Tuesday to highlight the passage of a bill to promote domestic high-tech manufacturing.

Biden had also been scheduled to visit his home in Wilmington, Delaware, on Sunday morning, where first lady Jill Biden has been staying while the president was positive. Both trips have been canceled as Biden has returned to isolation.

Biden, 79, was treated with the anti-viral drug Paxlovid, and tested negative for the virus on Tuesday and Wednesday. He was then cleared to leave isolation while wearing a mask indoors. His positive tests puts him among the minority of those prescribed the drug to experience a rebound case of the virus.

While Biden was testing negative, he returned to holding in-person indoor events and meetings with staff at the White House and was wearing a mask, in accordance with CDC guidelines. But the president removed his mask indoors when delivering remarks on Thursday and during a meeting with CEOs on the White House complex.

Asked why Biden appeared to be breaching CDC protocols, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “They were socially distanced. They were far enough apart. So we made it safe for them to be together, to be on that stage.”

Regulators are still studying the prevalence and virulence of rebound cases, but the CDC in May warned doctors that it has been reported to occur within two days to eight days after initially testing negative for the virus.

“Limited information currently available from case reports suggests that persons treated with Paxlovid who experience COVID-19 rebound have had mild illness; there are no reports of severe disease,” the agency said at the time.

When Biden was initially released from isolation on Wednesday, O’Connor said the president would “increase his testing cadence” to catch any potential rebound of the virus.

White House COVID-19 coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha told reporters on Monday that “the clinical data suggests that between 5 and 8 percent of people have rebound” after Paxlovid treatment.

Paxlovid has been proven to significantly reduce severe disease and death among those most vulnerable to COVID-19. U.S. health officials have encouraged those who test positive to consult their doctors or pharmacists to see if they should be prescribed the treatment, despite the rebound risk.

Biden is fully vaccinated, after getting two doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine shortly before taking office, a first booster shot in September and an additional dose March 30.

While patients who have recovered from earlier variants of COVID-19 have tended to have high levels of immunity to future reinfection for 90 days, Jha said that the BA.5 subvariant that infected Biden has proven to be more “immune-evasive.”

“We have seen lots of people get reinfected within 90 days,” he said, adding that officials don’t yet have data on how long those who have recovered from the BA.5 strain have protection from reinfection.

I don't know. It is possible that he already has it and that is why the reoccurrence. Possible also that his age has a lot to do with it as well. His immune system just may not be up to the battle.

Not sure why you all love Biden so much.

Clinton - asshole that should be forgotten but people (not left usually) just can't STFU about him.
Obamma - medium president, conveniently forgotten for the good he did because "no jobs" evidently?
Trump - LMAO "more jobs"? Really?
Biden - Nut Job was one Pres before Biden; as lame as he's been, give credit where it is due at least for the good he's done.

Overall - Y'all need to stop fawning over Biden, it's kind'a creepy (Also, Boom just needs to admit he's in love with the man and stop passive/aggressively showing it)

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/good-things-biden-leslie-marshall ----->Yes, an opinion written by a Dem, but STILL published up on Fox News so...

https://www.businessinsider.com/bid...19-tests-in-short-supply-as-omicron-spreads-9 -----> this lists his accomplishments AND failures which I actually agree with, save Afghanistan; that was both failure on Biden AND Trump, not Biden alone. Yet I do think Biden holds a LOT of the control of just how badly it ended still.

Unlike some I won't give Biden credit for jobs OR gas prices as solely being on him, because it's not. So while jobs are UP better than anyone expected AND gas is going down, those things aren't as much on him alone. IMO.

https://apnews.com/article/biden-ay...th-pandemics-f56381f54747d185a8ce05c3c5efc0e1 -----> Pretty goddamn important, I'd say, and a 'good' thing.

https://apnews.com/article/ayman-al...rorism-biden-36e5f10256c9bc9972b252849eda91f2 -----> Is this 'good' or not? And don't 'what about Trump's Suleimani', that is NOT the same as this, and a totally different situation that if you want to discuss it, make a thread.

Has Biden done some bad? FUCK YES. And IMO the ONLY reason he's President now is, because he's NOT Trump, which is why people voted FOR him. But he's not done enough for a lot of things and likely that'll cost him, or rather the Dems, in the midterms. He's been TOO much like Obama in wanting to "Work with Republicans".

Fuck the Republicans, they want NOTHING for their country, only their own pockets and they're turning more and more into authoritarian Autocrats every damned day. The sooner the sensible Republicans get control of the party, the better (which isn't likely, sadly...)

I was able to give Trump credit where it was due.

The same can't be said for most of those 'anti-Biden'.

Lightning strike near White House leaves 3 dead, 1 injured
Authorities did not reveal how people were injured

WASHINGTON — A husband and wife from Wisconsin celebrating more than five decades of marriage were killed in a lightning strike outside the White House. A third victim was pronounced dead Friday evening, and one other is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

James Mueller, 76, and Donna Mueller, 75, of Janesville, Wisconsin, died of their injuries after the lightning strike Thursday in Lafayette Park, located directly outside the White House complex, the Metropolitan Police Department said Friday.

A third victim, a 29-year-old adult male, was pronounced dead Friday. The fourth person, a woman, was in critical condition, the police department said. Their identities were not immediately released.

Authorities did not reveal how the people were injured, other than to say they were critically hurt in the lightning strike.

The Muellers were on a trip to Washington, D.C., to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary, according to their niece, Michelle McNett of Janesville.

“They were a very loving couple,” McNett told the Wisconsin State Journal. “They were very, very family oriented. I think everyone’s just in shock right now and kind of request privacy.”

The couple had five children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, she told the paper.

Donna Mueller was a teacher and in retirement worked at the Comfort Shoppe, a local furniture store. Jim, 76, was a retired contractor who had his own drywall business.

McNett said she’s not sure why the couple picked the nation’s capital for their vacation, but added that “Donna was a constant learner.”

The husband and wife, according to their niece, loved having gatherings and just had a big family gathering a couple of weeks ago.

“They were very religious,” she said. “Just the kind of people who would give the shirt off their back to do anything for you, both of them.”

Officers with the Secret Service and the U.S. Park Police witnessed the lightning strike Thursday night and ran over to render first aid, officials said. Emergency medical crews were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. and had transported all of the victims to the hospital with “critical, life-threatening injures,” fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said.

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of life after the lightning strike in Lafayette Park,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “Our hearts are with the families who lost loved ones, and we are praying for those still fighting for their lives.”

2 plead guilty in scheme to sell Biden's daughter's diary

NEW YORK — Two Florida residents have pleaded guilty in a scheme to peddle a diary and other items belonging to President Joe Biden’s daughter to the conservative group Project Veritas for $40,000, prosecutors said Thursday.

Aimee Harris and Robert Kurlander pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams’ office said.

“Harris and Kurlander sought to profit from their theft of another person’s personal property, and they now stand convicted of a federal felony as a result,” Williams said in a statement.

Harris’ lawyer, Sam Talkin, said she “has accepted responsibility for her conduct and looks forward to moving on with her life.” Kurlander’s lawyer, Florian Miedel, declined to comment.

Harris, 40, of Palm Beach, and Kurlander, 58, face the possibility of up to five years in prison when sentenced.

While authorities didn’t identify Ashley Biden or the organization that paid, the details of the investigation have been laid out in court filings and public statements from Project Veritas.

Ashley Biden was moving out of a friend’s Delray Beach, Florida, home in spring 2020 when she stored the diary, tax records, a digital device with family photos, a cellphone and other items there, prosecutors said in a court filing.

They said Harris then moved into the same room, stole the items and got in touch with Kurlander, who enthused in a text message that he would help her make a “ton of money” from it, adding an expletive before “ton.”

He ultimately contacted Project Veritas, which asked for photos of the material and then paid for the two to bring the diary and photos to New York, prosecutors said.

Project Veritas staffers met with the two in New York and dispatched them back to Florida to retrieve more of Ashley Biden’s items from the home, which they did and turned the material over to a local Project Veritas worker, who brought it to New York, prosecutors said.

The group paid the two $20,000 apiece, prosecutors said.

Project Veritas, which identifies itself as a news organization, is best known for conducting hidden camera stings that have embarrassed news outlets, labor organizations and Democratic politicians. Founder James O’Keefe has cast the organization’s methods as part of a long tradition of journalists using hidden cameras or subterfuge to uncover wrongdoing.

“Project Veritas’s news gathering was ethical and legal” in the diary affair, the group said in a statement Thursday. The organization has said that it turned the journal over to law enforcement after receiving it from “tipsters” who maintained that it had been abandoned in a room.

“A journalist’s lawful receipt of material later alleged to be stolen is routine, commonplace and protected by the First Amendment,” Project Veritas added Thursday.

Neither Project Veritas nor any staffers have been charged with a crime.

The FBI searched the group’s New York offices and the homes of some of its employees as part of the investigation. A court in New York appointed a former federal judge to review material that was seized in those searches, so as to ensure that investigators couldn’t look at material protected by journalistic or attorney-client privileges.

Generally, media organizations aren’t culpable for receiving material that might have been stolen, if they weren’t involved in the theft. But there can be criminal liability for orchestrating theft and then knowingly paying for stolen material.

“There is no First Amendment protection for the theft and interstate transport of stolen property,” the U.S. attorney’s office wrote in a court filing last year.

O’Keefe has said that Project Veritas ultimately did not publish information from the diary because it could not confirm it belonged to Ashley Biden.

He added that there was “no doubt Project Veritas acted appropriately at each and every step.”

Yeah - that's a pretty good example of how people who are desperate to defend him maul the truth.

The first two are not 'achievements'. They were horrible policy failures that drove up inflation and now interest rates higher than they should be by a large margin. It's like saying "successfully shot self in foot".

Jobs, - there is more pressure there due to his policies but the fact is that's made things WORSE. if he'd just opened up the economy those jobs would have been there but inflation would be lower. ti's not a good thing to have more jobs than your economy can take,

Transgender right? Sure, why not but that's really not what the US needed right now.

His time in office has been a largely unmitigated failure. In fact, dem or GOP it's rare to see it so lopsided on the scales. Which is why the dems are freaking about the midterms.

Biden was supposed to be a safe little placeholder, otherwise bernie would have won and they weren't prepared to go that hard left, But it's kind of gotten out of control for him at this point. well see what happens in the mids
