The only reason Harper got a majority was because of "Easterners". Ontario has more elected conservative MP's then BC and Alberta combined.
A quick search of the government of Canada website reveals:
Ontario: 73 Conservative MP's

British Columbia: 21 Conservative MP's.

East coast is different though.
Ontario only got lumped in with "Easterners" once we became a "have not" province. That's when Albertans took aim, and everything to their directional right became the new left.

Perhaps comments of disrespect for Jack should be relegated to another thread, saving the rest of us from a deluge of ignorance, this has F**k all to do with politics but rather recognition of a decent man who gave hope to a lot of people...........mainly ones who needed it the most!
And it has a bigger population than B.C. Alberta, Sask. and Manitoba combined! :smile:

Harper is not a great speaker.......and I don't want to over-analyze, but I actually thought he was on the edge of choking up at that point.......
I am in favour of a State Funeral. This time Harper did the right thing. State Funerals are in fact
reserved for Prime Ministers and Governors General. But in a strange way Jack Layton did more
than die of cancer at the height of his popularity. He crossed political lines, ethnic lines and of
course generational lines. He just might be the cornerstone of bringing back ethics, honesty and
respectability to the profession of politics. Over the centuries all kinds of governments have laid
to rest scoundrels and scumbags with State Funerals. This time they will lay to rest someone who
really deserves a State Funeral. After all almost everyone on this board had something good to say
about Jack even if they didn't agree with his policies. That is emblematic of bringing people together.
Oh there was a couple of the usual suspects who expressed their total dislike for the man but then
we all have our opinion.
